For what it's worth IIRC a Russian member posted a -Toyota?- replacement they used for the main also.

So I filed a few tonight and this is what I came up with. So here’s the thing. It can be carefully hand filed on both sides of the tang and get a dead center oil hole as seen in the one pic. Time consuming.

Or it can be filed one side of the tang (the outside edge) and have a slightly off centered oil hole as seen in the other pic. The beauty of that would be I can build a jig in my garage that could grind them accurately and repeatedly going with this method. Once the jig is setup I can probably bang out a single bearing in 30 seconds.

My guess is the off set oil hole is just fine, but I’d like feedback from you guys

I filed both sides to get the hole lined up. IDK if that matters much, a jig sounds way easier.

I took it for its first real spirited rip today and hit 7k rpm a few times, still hasn't exploded :D.
I agree that the “right” way to do it is file both sides to better center the oil hole and the bearing in general. My rational for filing one side was that if it were to be done for “production” purposes, a jig setup would be fairly easy to create so these things could be banged out quickly. But if folks are hand filing their own bearings on an as needed basis, I think for sure they should hitting both sides

If you can, please share your jig for filing the tangs. That would be nice to be able to create repeatable filing and bearing placement.

Thanks,
Michael

The jig doesn’t exist. My point is one could be made though fairly easy if only one side is being filed/ground. If filing both sides, a jig would be quite difficult

To clarify, which bearings are these that you've settled on?

Can you share the type of hand file you used for filing the tang. I was thinking about getting these ready and then storing them until the time comes for the next set of rod bearings.

Thanks,
Michael

I personally haven’t run them yet but perhaps excidere can chime in. I’d think he has some decent miles by now

So far so good I'm at about 500mi. I haven't sent off any oil samples for analysis because I'm lazy but It still runs and still holding pressure!

Also: fidanza.com did let me order some actual SHO bearings, and then sent me an email that the order was handed off to the supplier for "processing" but that was over a month ago so who knows if they'll ever actually show up.

I just bought a set as well, it’ll be a good winter project when I replace the y-pipe. Thanks @excidere for blazing the trail.

And I’m debating replacing the clutch as well, it functions fine today but the engagement has always been a bit off. It starts to catch with the pedal half way off the floor but doesn’t fully engage until near the top of the pedal travel. I suspect bent fingers, but your guess is as good as mine…
