Yeah, I think the Acura bearings would work no problem but it might be a better option to get the Supra bearings and trim them down to fit. Just depends how the oil hole lines up I guess.

The Supra ones are the closest fit so far imho, the oil holes are perfect. Only the tang is a bit too wide.

I've taken a keen interest to this thread as I dropped the valve tappet holder down the oil return hole. Don't ask, I know I screwed up. I was going to tie fishing line to it, I thought about it and it's the thought counts. Except here.
So I have to drop the oil pan now. With 160k miles, I figure it is time to do the rod bearings - if I can find 'em. It's looking like the CB1437P are the right part, with dremel-ing.
I'll see what you come up with @excidere and pull the trigger shortly after.

Don't take my advice.
I've done this and luckily the way it landed I was able to get it out with a flexible magnet straight down the oil return hole. Worth a shot.

Ha, I have one on order. The straight one doesn't quite get there. We'll find out Weds night if I got lucky too...

I tried for about 10 minutes - then it worked! I got that little bugger out of there!
I am still very interested in getting a viable rod bearing option.

Alright, finally got a chance to test out and plastigage the DNJ RB270 STD Acura bearings. These are pretty close as well, the oil hole is just *slightly* off, and they're a little more narrow. Plastigauge was done with a 3.2 piston on a 3.2 crank, 2 stage torque 25ft/lbs and then 35ft/lbs, in position 4.

Those look close. 3 questions:
- what is the expected rod bearing clearance?
- how do you read a plastigauge? Are there two pieces that got smushed side by side? I assume the resulting width is the clearance measurement.
- how far off is the oil hole? I would think any noticeable offset from the rod hole to the bearing hole would be bad from an oil flow standpoint.

According to the manual we are going for:
0.024-0.056mm desired
0.08 allowable
In person that reads like somewhere close to 0.076 which is a little on the high side. Which does make me wonder if .25s would be better.
I can get a better picture of the hole alignment after work.
I think I still like the supras the best, if motivated enough to file some tangs. I like that they're wider.

CB1639P Also looks like it may be close, numbers wise. Not sure about the oil hole or tang. Toyota 2.2.

So have we come to the consensus that the Supra bearings are the closest? I’m thinking while this engine is in and out and unknown mileage, it would be stupid to not change the bearings
