3.2 timing belt tensioner

I recently replaced my timing belt. The piston tensoiner is really weak, it took very little effort to compress it. After I got it all installed and put back together, the car ran great but the pully assembly was "chattering" against the tensoiner. I had to cut a piece of the old timing belt to fit in between the tensoiner and pully. I cut it to fit around the piston and left it a little long so that when I put the middle timing cover on, it would hold the piece of belt in place. I havent had any problems at all and there is no more chatter but I would like to do the job right. I cannot find another tensoiner anywhere. Is it at all possible to fill the tensoiner with hydraulic fluid?

It is pneumatic and mechanically sprung. Once the seal is worn out enough to let the air pressure escape, all you have left for spring tension is the coil spring inside, and that is not enough tension to stand up to a flapping belt. Sorry. Time to go find one in the want to buy section or a junk yard.

It may still be available at the stealership. It was last year, and two years ago when I bought mine they had over 100 in the warehouse. 120 bucks or somthing like that. You will be hard pressed to find a "good" used one. I tried 3 and none of them were any good.
