Update:

Had limited time to play so I didn’t test the DIS yet but wanted to at least confirm DIS/MAF as the culprits for at least the major issues. So for now, I swapped in the DIS from the second car. 100% it was dielectric grease that was used. IMG 7608

Made the swap, WITH HEAT SINK COMPOUND! Then also robbed the OEM airbox, piping, and MAF and crudely plumbed that up to the throttle body.
Fingers crossed, I fired it up. Gave it a few seconds to get the juices flowing and cracked the throttle, quick response, no hesitation, even sounded stronger. Said ok, I’m sending it. Pulled out and it was 100% a different car, ran great, responsive, peppy. The downside, CEL still on, gears feel kind of crunchy to jam into, and the tach works but it’s still slow and blocky in its movements. Overall I can’t complain with the amount of effort, how far it’s come from non running to drivable.

Crappy pic, but I dig the gauges.

I had a tach that didn't make sense, it was always reading high by 1.5k rpms. Once I verified the cam position sensor was good, I swapped out the cluster and fixed it.

Glad the big 80mm MAF is out and DIS is working right. I assume you reset the ECU by pulling the battery? Pull the new codes and let us know what they are.

I’m trying to keep track and replace what I steal from the second car so it doesn’t end up stripped. I’ll have to use the 80mm MAF on it. So if anyone knows the whereabouts of a ribbon style LPM let me know. I talked to SHOsource and they said they can still program those.

Shored up the OEM airbox and plugged in the IAT sensor. The SHOshop setup didn’t have the sensor so I found the plug for it just dangling. Not sure if that’s what did it but went for a drive and no CEL!

The car rides unbelievably nice for being lowered and seems to handle pretty well. It was dusk which is prime deer time so I couldn’t really let her have it.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in helping me get to the bottom of this. I really appreciate the help. It’s my first rodeo with the Yamaha so I’m learning as I go.
