Some of us want to keep our $300 cars on the road because they're fun, unique, and not like every other mundane car out there. I have a set guaranteed either way, but just saying.

That's good news, Hamal.

I'm ****** that I can't get RCA to make a batch of brand new vacuum tubes for my 1962 Zenith console TV. I know that there are more of those TV's in existence today than SHO's were ever produced, so they should make them!

Who's with me to start a letter-writing campaign? :salute:

I have boxes of vacuum tubes for color and black and white tvs in my garage.

I called that same 800 # for Clevite today just out of curiosity since I had contradicting info from my e-mail response from them.

They are NOT discontinued. They ARE still on backorder with a date of 10/19 estimated to be available.

Mahle Clevite Customer Service phone number: (800) 223 9152

They have 300 on order to be available in late October or early November.

Um yea ....

Thank you checking, I was planning on dropping the pan in the next month or so. If they were discontinued I was just gonna keep driving til she died. So again Thank you, Thank you to everyone checking into this.

Wow.. I'm starting to worry about this "daily driver" of mine.. It's starting to feel like I'm driving an AMX or something.

300 sets divided by 1,000,000 part stores and 10 vendors = No rod bearings for you!

Please keep in mind that the SHOFORUM is maybe 10% of all SHO Owners.

Funny part is that everyone that was scared is now putting it back on the back burner again.. A friend of a friend inside Clevite (fairly high up) says they will NOT be making them as the cost of tooling, man hours material is not worth it for them as a business.

This 300 pair order could be what they have left in blanks, and if they are really releasing them I would order and put on your shelf just in case and not wait until the day your motor takes a dump. Im glad that I ordered them over a year ago when the list of discontinued parts from them came out.

the pile I have is better then sitting on gold.

Its always better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

This is why even though im broke I did not cancel my order for rod bearings. Who knows if they are for sure going to be made or not. All we know is that they are on backorder and that they are running out as it is now. Might as well stock up.

I just ordered an extra set to have on shelf as well. My set for the 89 are on the way and they 95's are done....but If I get another SHO later on or drive the **** out of the ones I have, I will need them.

I got the second set for $70 shipped from another vendor I found. Hopefully won't receive a note back saying they're out of stock.

Edit: I just got a call from the regional rep from the company where I ordered my bearings. They will be drop shipped in approximately 10 days, which coincides when they come off of backorder from Clevite.

I'm wondering / doubting that there are only "300 sets" being made. This company has a payment and a guaranteed buyer for at least 1 set; so how does Clevite prioritize who gets what when they ship out? First come first serve based on orders? You have the whole "largest / best customer to Clevite" vs those smaller companies that may not be a big customer for them but have "guaranteed prepaid customer orders" issue.

If they cancel my order, it's not a huge deal as I already have a set on the way. Just not sure how they would allocate what is left. I'm assuming that they will distribute based on orders from their customers (i.e. RockAuto, SHOSource, parts store chains, etc.) I don't see there already being 300 orders all at once in the next month, so getting them immediately probably won't be an issue. Maybe they're considered "special order from the manufacturer" on a per order basis until they're all gone if there are truly only 300 sets left? I don't see them saying Customers/Companies A-J get a stock of 30 sets each to hang on to until they sell. My line of work isn't retail, so I don't know how it works in the grand scheme of things. I'm just over analyzing here.

Guys, come on. Your going to let of bearings hold you back? I have only had my sho for a month, and there really is not a ton of aftermarket support for these cars, at least any i can find. We should be used to this by now. But what little support i have seen comes from enthusiasts with engineering know-how. Maybe the depletion of said bearings will force us to build bad ass, crazy frankenstein style motors. Here's to not letting them die!

Yeah, I love SHO's but I'm with the F-it crowd and would walk when those type of parts are history.

YMMV if you abuse your SHO, but a well cared for one should be able to go 200k on a set of rod bearings. I changed them at 155K. The current set should take me to 355K. If worse comes to worse, I can put the originals back in and they should take it over 400K. I think I'll be done with it by then :)

Nevertheless, I do hope Clevite cranks out another batch.
