Hmmm... Here's the problem. Trans parts? Obsolete. Suspension? Obsolete. OE sensors (that'll last longer than Echlin garbage) are pretty damn hard to find. Now this. I don't and never will take it "easy" on my SHO because that's why I enjoy driving them. The same reason I enjoyed their company 16yrs+ of being an "enthusiast".

Now I'm down to one and only one car, that is the '92. Being a daily driver, this kind of crap scares the **** out of me. I can't afford to wait for weeks to get it back on the road again and I really can't afford to rent a storage space to collect obsolete parts in case something happens. Back when I owned my project '89 car, I was regretfully stuck with using "good" synchros and blocking rings for my trans rebuild. Which, by the way, absolutely weren't "good", worth the money or the time. So I had a quaifed trans that shifted like shit, $1500 in parts along later, for an SHO that couldn't break into the 13s to save its life.

I've just about had as much as my brain can take with all of this shenanigans. Such a shame, I must say, since nothing can replace these cars. I love them to death. But death this time around and I'm tossing in the towel.

I'll go ahead and throw this out then. Long term availability, who knows; short-term, yes we know for a fact more are being released in the next week or two.

I will give you guys the name of an additional supplier that can get them for you. They drop ship to your house directly from the vendor's supplier. It took me a couple of weeks because they had to "hunt" for them at their various distributors. Try KTeller. My second (extra) set shipped out this week with a tracking #.

I had good service from them. In fact, a local rep called me to confirm my quantity since the bearings are sold in a box of 2 (rod and cap) and that a whole set would be 6 boxes for the 6 cyl. He also followed up and told me he'd located 4 but re-confirmed I needed all 6 and was working on getting the 2 others as fast as he could. Once they were found, they e-mailed me a tracking #.

So yeah, there may be various other small places out there that aren't known sellers that have them. This place was good at tracking some extras down and making sure that I got my set, even if I had to wait for the new batch to be released. Their main vendor for bearings is ACL; never heard of them. Not sure if they would be good products for our cars.

Figured I'd share this with others.

I have another set (thanks Kirk), and I've currently gone 101.5k on my current set. Now if I can get 100k out of my next set, I'll be happy. But, do I really want this car for another 8 years? I'm hoping to be in something more modern, better built, and just as fun by then.

I never get tired of my SHOs. I got interested in them back around 94; 17 years later I like them just as much. Going to keep mine as long as possible.

Seriously, who hasn't seen this sort of thing coming? When is the last time a manufacturer made synchros for the MTX?

People who beat the tar out of their cars will destroy them, and then move onto a more worthy vehicle, and the very few who baby their cars will have something fun to display at car shows for the next few decades.

As my car has sat in the backyard with the grass growing up around it, I start to wonder if I even care?

You need the standard size.

300 sets divided by 1,000,000 part stores and 10 vendors = No rod bearings for you!

Please keep in mind that the SHOFORUM is maybe 10% of all SHO Owners.

Funny part is that everyone that was scared is now putting it back on the back burner again.. A friend of a friend inside Clevite (fairly high up) says they will NOT be making them as the cost of tooling, man hours material is not worth it for them as a business.

This 300 pair order could be what they have left in blanks, and if they are really releasing them I would order and put on your shelf just in case and not wait until the day your motor takes a dump. Im glad that I ordered them over a year ago when the list of discontinued parts from them came out.

the pile I have is better then sitting on gold.

Its always better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Is there an actual "list" I need to get on?

pwnt.

As Brian said, you would need standard size, unless you want to have the crank machined to use the undersize bearings.

If you don't need the car ASAP (and have other transportation) you may want to wait another few days. Read back further in the thread and I posted the availability date, 10/16 or something like that. If not, you might want to try KTeller. My spare set is scheduled to arrive at my door tomorrow. I paid 70 shipped.

I just ordered a set. Freaking oil cooler almost cost me the engine tonight. Leaked most of the oil out and caused a slight knock to rear its ugly head because of it. Knocking is gone but I'm not taking any chances.

RCM says they're on backorder til the 19th.

While we are on topic. Is there a HOW TO on rod bearings. Im am 100% positive i can do them without the How to, but want to make sure i do everything correct.
