Upgraded pistons......????

Do share, as I am unaware of any differentiation in pistons between the two packages.

Everything else you list is accurate though. So for that....

@shoblock gave us that insight over a couple of posts over the years. Theory is PI cars do a lot of idling (I know you know this), then are subjected to full throttle pulls and other police driving activities. They needed a more durable piston. In post two below, Shoblock talks about the difference.

https://shoforum.com/threads/forged-rods.139196/

Post 32 Shoblocks references the pictures in the above thread in this thread. The pictures have timed out, but the part number reference is different for the PP pistons verse the non PP pistons.

great info here.. if the following is too off topic for this thread just tell me..
i havent seen an option for determining a part ie rear shock listed as w/painted calipers or wo/ painted calipers..
but apparently rock auto did it like that;

what gives with the "painted caliper" option and why does it change the shock choice

MOTORCRAFT ASH23479 Info

Rear; w/ Painted Calipers

MOTORCRAFT ASH23482 Info

Rear; w/o Painted Calipers

from this website url
This thread is a catch all. So no worries. The first part is all information for new SHO owners. The middle is all my upgrades, failures, and wins with the SHO. Now it has morphed into my Lexus build. I tried a thread on the Lexus forums but literally gets zero traffic. People here seem to like the Lexus, and a current SHO owner is tuning it...so it is guilty by association.

To answer your question. I usually reference everything through Tascaparts.com. I am not a Rock Auto fan. I find the website to be cumbersome. For the painted caliper question, I do not have an answer either. I have stock PP shocks and struts with H&R Springs.

tasca might be worse..

so according to tasca the painted caliper is not an indicator of the performance package since they are options for painted caliper with AND without the performance package

actually it is the opposite.. lol..

Lexus update: About two months I went a Lexus car show. Always a fun time. However on the way back, my clutch pedal decided it wanted to stay on the floor. I pulled over and checked it out....sure enough there was fluid trickling out of the bell housing.

I honestly don't know what failed. Either the slave or a busted hydraulic line is probably the culprit. However, I have to pull the transmission to even diagnose the problem fully. Hence, why it is still not fixed....lol. One of these days, I will get around to it. I did start it the other day, and I remember how cool it sounds.....

I don't miss the old 5 and 6 speed Mustang days. I even had a lift, but did not look forward to clutch work. One teeny tiny thing can go wrong and cause yet another full tranny R&R. My sympathy, brother.

I thought the hydraulic cylinder was on the outside. Did they change the design?

I run a twin disc. The slave bolts to the trans and goes around the input shaft. At this point it would be sweet if it was the stock external slave and fork system.

You probably should have made this it's own post instead of hijacking a post about another member's build. You'd get more responses that that way. But here's some PTU information that will have what you need.

SHO update:

Worked on the SHO this weekend. After an oil change a couple months ago, I noticed there was coolant all over the front engine cover and along the frame. Was kinda bummed to see it. I immediately assumed weep hole. However I followed the coolant trail up to the upper radiator hose. There was a small leak in the plastic junction to the over flow container. Went to Ford got the upper hose and replaced it and did a coolant flush this past Saturday. Super easy. I also put my battery charger on the SHO at the time, and when battery was charged I removed it. My GF took it later to get food and run errands. All was well.

The next day, I went to upload the E30 tune in the car. I have 12 gallons of E85 sitting in my garage for the Lexus, but since it is down I didn't want it to go to waste. Throw some in the SHO, and when I went to load the tune, the car went into battery saving mode. I start the car, everything is normal...weird. The battery is only a year and half old...they usually last 2 years here in AZ. I throw it back on the charger, wait another hour and it is charged. Try to start loading the tune, and battery saving mode again. WTF? Completely disconnect the battery, check it with my multi-meter...12.8 volts. Now I am really stumped. Leave it disconnected for an hour, re-connect it, and load the tune without any problems. LOL. SHO things.....

SHO’s eat batteries for breakfast. I’m on #5. I can’t load a tune with the hood open, my extra fuse for the Fuel-It ethanol sensor plugged in, or the battery on a tender. Like you said, SHO stuff.

I was always told to make sure the battery is reading over 14v to be considered a normal healthy charged battery - I had that thread talking about a parasitic battery drain, and one thing I learned the hard way - remove the battery cable before charging, the BCM/security system stays awake when the hood isnt latched. As a side note - I grab my batteries from Costco - Interstate selling both traditional and AGM batteries with 3 year warranties. The best is they take them back so easily. So just before the 3 years - trade up.

Interesting. I did have my hood open while I was trying upload the tune......Since both of you said that, that could have absolutely attributed to my troubles. However after the disconnect, charge, reconnect it did take the tune with the hood open.
