Coming home from work last Wednesday I was sitting in some heavy traffic. I thought I noticed the oil light flicker ever so slightly. The first words that came out of my mouth was "I know that was the Battery Light"!! I turned on the dome light to see which light it was and sure enough it was the Oil Light, then I said "OH CENSORED!!!" Well I managed to get it the next 12 miles home without anymore flickering and no knock. Thursday I ordered new rod bearings and let the SHO sit till Sunday when I could make time to change. After I pulled them out I was surprised. They aren't as bad compared to others I have seen. The SHO is back on the road and healthy again.

Here is what they looked like:

We should make this a rod bearing picture thread, since you have a nice shot of your bearings and mileage. Here is my contribution:
196K, ATX, rod knock (can you guess which bearing?) and oil light flickering.

^The motor lives on with fresh bearings

160K, MTX, ran fine

Nice and smooth now!

Here's a set with about 145 on em...

The car now has 162,000 miles and runs strong with no oil light(unless I lug it below about 600RPM)

my oil light will just flicker ever so slightly when the engine is good and warm and only when it is completely settled into a idle. would that mean that my rod bearings are on the way out?

Yes. That's exactly what it means. Changing your rod bearings is the best thing you can do for your car for under $100.

Do it ASAP or you will regreat. Don't drive till completed. It only takes a matter of minutes to spin a bearing. Yes, I babied mine home but my eye was glued to the oil light. If it would have flickered again I would of towed it home.

Do it! Don't delay! Act now! I killed 2 engines due to rod bearing failure. That was in my SHO infantsy. Now I always double check and then replace them in my engines.
