If I have old subframe bushings to replace, would it make sense or even help me to have the recall done before I replace them in the spring? How do I time this?

Thanx
yes it would make sense to have a dealer do the recall if warranted in your area.

I've got a set of Bruce's aluminum SFBs sitting on my countertop and I'm just itching to put them in, but I'm waiting until I get the recall service done by a Ford dealer first. I actually had an appointment with the dealer about a month ago to do it, but had to postpone on account of a fuel pump problem and then a broken timing belt, and then with the Holidays and snow and everything else I just haven't gotten around to bringing my SHO into the dealer. But it's on the agenda... :)

Will the dealer put the ASB's n when I have the recall done? I know I should have it done, I just wondered if I should have it done before or after replacing the bushings since they're aftermartket, and I didn't know if having them in there would affent anything...

Thanx

The dealership should be able to put them in, they may charge you though.

I was able to get my car in again today. I drilled the second hole on the drivers side, and installed the ASFB's in the driverside rear and passenger side front. I didnt have to time to finish up the job. There was some damage that was done in the front driverside probably from a Tow Truck that doesnt allow the bolt to spin out. There seems to be damage to the Nut.

After the "half way there" install I took it out and already felt a difference. I made some sharp right hand turns and there was nothing, no cracking at all, thank you Bruce!!! I just cant wait to get the other 2 in, hopefully Monday.*Finger's Crossed*.

I'll be sure to post some feedback on the vendors thread Bruce. The Bushings went in with no problem, and got quite a bit of attention from around the Shop. thumb

I feel your pain about noone wanting to help you out with it.

I took my car in for the SF recall, the dealer ran an Oasis report, and it came back that it wasn't covered. I showed them the printout from the NHTSA that included MY car, and they still said no, it wasn't covered.

It is my understanding that even though my car wasn't bought in the "affected" region, it is still covered because the wording of the recall states that:

"PASSENGER VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD, OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED, IN CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGNIA, AND WISCONSIN."

Well, I showed them my license plates, and my registration, and lo and behold, I LIVE IN MINNESOTA, AND THE CAR IS REGISTERED IN MINNESOTA.

Gee, doesn't that mean my SHO is one of the affected vehicles?

Oh well. Not to hijack the thread. Keep up the pressure until you get everything straight. Same thing I'm trying to do.

Good Luck!

Later!
burnout
Kelly,

What ford dealer were you dealing with?

Does anyone have any current information on this issue? I have just learned that both recalls were performed on my vehicle, but the body has rusted out to the point where the subframe has come loose. Are there any retrofit kits out there or am I looking at essentially fabricating pieces of steel and welding them on to the non-rust portions of the undercarrige?

Thanks all...

Last summer I went through the whole song and dance of the dealership telling me the recall had been done years ago, but it really hadn't. I ended up getting the recall kit (part # XF1Z-5A364-AA) from Fast Parts Network and doing it myself. I also used the Gen III bushings as I read posts here that said they would be an upgrade from replacement ones.

body rust isnt covered by any kits, you will need to weld in new steel to make it right not to mention safe again.

For what it's worth....I am getting the exact same song and dance from Ford.

No hole in floor but the recall has been done....

BS!

I'm currently trying to make this whole ordeal cost Ford 10x what it would have cost to make me a happy Ford customer from the get go.

Thanks. There's enough rust around the bolt hole that it certainly looks like the only way to shore it up is to weld in new steel - at least 6 inches or so around the hole I would imagine once I get the rust out of there.

Well, I am tired of getting this :bs: run-around as well. So here's what I am planning to do.

1. Drop the car off for a scheduled appointment, and have the safety recall documented on the service ticket.

2. When they balk again, taking it in again, schedule the recall service a second time - and again have the recall documented on the service ticket. When they balk the second time, I plan on taking in a copy of the safety recall information I posted in the previous thread, pointing out it is a mandatory recall mandated by the NHTSA - not an "optional" recall. If they continue to refuse to honor the recall, that's when I plan to start pursuing this via the 800 number, then via written letter to the NHTSA, with copies of my service tickets where the dealer has repeatedly refused to honor the recall. That's when it becomes a legal issue, as the recall notification clearly states the recall is mandatory regardless of vehicle age or mileage (if you read what I posted in the other thread).

Grifter - when you repost a thread, please at the very least include a link to the prior thread. There is valuable information in that thread, that could have clearly helped several here. Simply bringing the prior thread to the top by posting a new reply within that thread, instead of starting a new thread, would have gotten the same replies and feedback, as well as insuring that information got to people reading/replying for the first time in this thread. On many forums a "repeat" thread will get locked for this very reason.

I went to two different dealerships. I printed out the directions on how to do the recall and showed that clearly it had not been done, at least correctly, since there were no holes. They said to call Ford because they wanted to make sure they would be reimbursed for it. Ford said they would call the dealership about it, and then the dealership said Ford told them they wouldn't cover it, since it was "done" at a dealership in Delaware a few years ago. The only positive is that I spent so much time arguing with the mechanic that it probably cost the dealership more than if they had just gone ahead and done it.

Like I said before...I have the same problem (subframe has come loose from the floor due to rust; Ford says recalls were done; no extra holes, etc.). My mechanic (who used to work for a Ford dealership) advised me that the best way to get Ford's attention is to raise **** in a big (many people) and public way. His documentaiton shows that the second recall involved over 2 million vehicles (so all taurus's for several years). That seems like a pretty significant pool of potential affected buyers for a class action lawsuit against Ford.

Thoughts?

Well, I'm keeping my old subframe once I get the upgraded one. Free to anyone who wants proof to show that Ford screwed up, the pass. side rear mount is rusted through.

Storm-Chaser, before admonishing another member on posting etiquette, please at the very least take a moment to comprehend the totality of the circumstances upon which the post was made. For instance, in this case the original post is over three (3) years old! In addition, Grifter hasn't made any posts in nearly a year and hasn't even visited the forum since late last year.

Not everyone has the time and inclination to compose detailed service-manual-esque dissertations with fancy formatting, colors, links, reference data, etc. when posting about issues and/or solutions with regard to these cars.
