Hey guys,
I have a question for y'all. I live up here in Alaska and have no access to e85, or even 93 octane fuel. I have access to 91 and that's it. I got gearhead tune and spoke with them and I asked them if I could use boostane to increase octane to 95 to run 93 tune. They said that it's ok to do so, and that the premium fuel tune they have can autocorrect for 91-93 even with my 2011 SHO which doesn't have that AO capability. They recommend I ran this every other tank to keep plugs and such from getting too gross.

Have any of you guys done that? I have heard horror stories and also good ones about this stuff. I basically am just looking to increase to 93 for regular gas people can get anywhere else that's not BFE Alaska.

I feel like if it works it's a cheap alternative to something I just can't get locally. My other option would be...meth injection?

You should be alright if Matt thinks it's fine. He's been helping me figure out a hard shift issue. (ended up being motor and trans mounts, changed the fluid too just to be safe.) Man is a genius and seems to know these platforms EXTREMELY well.

Complete waste of money honestly. 91 with a Gearhead tune will be good enough, minus if you are crazy like me and want an max effort build. Remember, your car is 14 years old now......

I uh....just accidentally bought a GH intercooler and ppe downpipes so uh....I might want max effort

I was thinking about adding meth injection because then id skip the whole fuel issue and that just makes FISCAL SENSE DOESNT IT? I think that's how this sickness goes

Also just ordered some trans mounts from Anthony because I don't know what wheel hop is and I don't wanna find out. Also that 1-2 shift sucks and hoping this makes it better.

I guess I don't want to go for max build, I just want to get the horsepower I've paid for if that makes sense.

After downpipes and IC I'll probably do upgraded shocks/struts and better brakes and probably call it a day. My goal is 450ish HP to wheels but I'll never be able to dyno it up here in Alaska

To make 450 awhp, you will need to add HPFP, LPFP (maybe), air intakes, downpipes, and upgraded turbos.

I went max effort and had everything you have, plus HPFP, downpipes, and full custom exhaust ran through stock mufflers. With the stock Turbos tapped out and on E30 my old car made 414 awhp and 546 awtq. Without turbos 450 awhp is not obtainable. Cracking 400 hp without turbos on 91 is going to be extremely difficult.

That's why I think ideally in my situation, you'd take 91 out of the equation and go meth injection with no e85 or 93 available.

Who knows. I might just be happy with whatever I get performance wise with intercooler and downpipes and possibly meth injection. That's about all the cash I'd like to dump into my SHO so definitely don't want to go as hard as you did. At the end of the day this is my 3rd car and it already puts a smile on my face after the tune. To spend like 5k+ to get that little a return isn't for me.

I bought this sho for 3200$ and have done quite a bit of fixing little stuff on her. Trying to keep everything under 10k and enjoy the amount of AWD car I get for that price point. I think ideally 400+ to the wheels is fine and fun for me. I wouldn't be mad at 450 but it's not a hard line if that makes sense.

For some reason I thought with 93 tune and intercooler GH showed about 400 to wheels right there so add In downpipes and I'd be close enough but maybe I'm wrong.

If it is a third car and not your daily, go hog wild. That is what I did with my old SHO, and now with its replacement.

I haven't read through all 8000 pages of your build but I've been making headway. I learned about transmission mounts in there i believe and just ordered some. What's your replacement?

This gen SHO has been a bucket list item and I can't believe I fell into this one. Two new windows, parking aid alarm, cabin filter, glovebox actuator, driver's side mirror, patched up trunk, replaced spoiler backup camera, fixed interior door latch, AC fixed, sunroof drains unclogged, rims fixed and plastidipped, and a seriously in depth detail (pics to come later) and Ive just about brought this thing back from the dead! I LOVE THIS CAR

Yeah, that thread is big and only getting bigger. Lots of cool stuff in it.

I replaced my 2013 SHO with a 2019 Mercedes E63s. Still a sedan, still all wheel drive (proper all wheel drive), and still twin turbo but with a V8. It is amazing, but I have had my fist fights with it as well. Still have a very soft spot in my heart for all SHO's, and I still want to own a Gen 3.

so I agree Matt at GH is a sharp guy. however if you are running cats... don't use the boostane. can clog cats and foul O2s

sm105k is the source I would stick with. I have the pumps lp and hpfp. just get an AO with 91. the IC is your best squeeze for turbo performance. the colder air in your neck of the woods is your advantage.
