For those of you who don't want to read through that thread, here was Don's response on what was done to the engine:
Where do i start ?

The motor is a 3.2 motor that I bought myself and converted to its current status. The motor should have about 90,000 actual miles on it.

I had Doug Lewis port and polish the heads and had installed SI over sized race valves. The cams are josh .40 over. The runners are all port matched to the heads. I also have Joshes adjustable sprockets. The intake is polished and ported with BBB butterflies. I am using a ATX cross over tube that I think allows higher end breathing. I had Doug L port and polish the exhaust manifold and I am running a high flow Y pipe.

I have the SHO SHOP CAI and running a 155 lph fuel pump. The car has underdrive pulleys and a lightened flywheel. With the tranny presently out of the vehicle getting a new 1st geat syncro ... I will upgraded and installed one of Doug L high performance clutches.

I have no a/c compressor which means no parasitic loss of pwr.

I am sure i am leaving things out but thats about it. I would expect with a good tune and the cams adjusted the motor would pull close to 300 hp and in its lightened state ... as others have professed it HAULS ASS.
Best attribute of the car though ?? Is its handling. This car is on RAILS on a road course .... heres a link to some pictures of the car

http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh161/1badsho/SR72/
And here was his final post:
********************SR 72 IS SOLD*************************

That was you bidding ? HA ..... yes a gentleman from Texas bought it for $4000 ..... got the cashiers check today. He doesnt know SHO's but he has a group of guys that road race in some special texas event and they needed a safe track car with full roll cage ....this fit the bill

And it was still beat by a stock SHO that still has AC so it can be driven to and from the track. LMAO

No the AC is gone. It worked for the first race we did with the car but it developed a bunch of leaks afterwards. The dash is still in it though.

And we didn't have the fastest lap time of the SHO's. The 97, ETL, and Zippy had quicker fastest laps. But it's an endurance race, you have to endure. All of our driver's said that they were braking early, and not trying to take the corners as fast as they could. Consistentsy is what wins these races, and staying on track as long as possible.

Here's the shocker, from lap 136 we took the lead and never lost it to the finish on lap 329! That's almost 2/3 of the race! We are so screwed at the next race. How many penalty laps are we gonna get? At least 5 for winning by that many.

That was my worry, that SHOs are going to be magnets for BS laps now. The E30s have been getting hammered for a while, now that the SHOs are doing well that could come around, but it all depends on Jay's and the Judge's moods. Amp up the themes and bring bribes and things may be fine.

We raced against Eyesore, who've won overall a bunch of times, many with the same car, but they go all out on the themes. I suspect some of the team members work in the movie or stage industry, because the props on the car and their costumes are first rate. It might take that kind of effort to keep the BS laps under control.

You might be right on that. We need to come dressed up like Rat Fink Pimps or something to get a break. And a bribe won't hurt either. At least we have 3 months to come up with something.:)

my only beef with lemons is when it's all said and done, you could probably field and run a SpecE30 or Spec miata for the same $$.

it is a lot of fun though

I don't know. We haven't spent much after the first build. Tires, brakes, and oil are most of the expenses. Well gas too. $3.25/gal for 93. Tires are $500 plus mounting. Racing pads anywhere from $130 to $250 per axle. Race oil is $4/qt.

You mean the ringer? The one that bribed the judges to pass tech, that one? The one with the racing cam, that one? The one with 3.2 motor & ported heads SI race valves ported intake runners, that one? RINGERS!!!! Well that one got beat by RRRR all day long.

First .... Sergio congratulations .... great run with your SHO

I talked to Doug L today and he filled me in on some of what happened to my "$500 " SHO.

And yes to all ... that ringer is my sold SR 72.

Last year when I sold it to larry ... the owner of the resort .... they blew a head gasket mid way through last years lemons race and had to retire the Sr 72 when leading the event by 20 laps

This year .... with some minor work done to it ( cough bull*** #&$)Q# ) they came in first place on saturday ( at least thats the second hand info I got ) and on sunday they lost ground big time due to there gas tank over heating and venting gas fumes out of the back. Thye got blacked flaged twice for that and had to come in. They also had to pit with a front ( 13" cobra brakes ) caliper leak ... they couldnt fix it so they blocked it off and still finished 9th place running on 3 brakes .... try that.

Not taking anything away from Sergio ... nor am I contesting if this car should even run in this event .... I'll take the fifth on that.

What I will say is with a me or a competent driver behind the wheel .... and everything is working like its suppose too .... I dont know of too many cars that could keep up with it

I never should of sold it !! ! !!

That car had SI valves in it ? NAH ............. LMAO :laugh_ti:

$4, man we used the cheap junk

I guess I meant more the $1k fee's for a car and drivers. that's 3 weekends of NASA fee's for 2 days of racing each

Yeah, Jay's sorted out a pretty decent business model. Have to give him that.

It is fun racing, though. Where else can you run in the top of the pack in a car that's too slow to be competitive in any other race, and that you really, really, REALLY, don't care if you or one of your team-mates wads it up? I just enjoyed the whole flavor of the event. For us it was probably the most fun, lowest pressure competition we'd done, and we were doing well right up until the Nth catastrophic failure finally took us off the track. Our crew did manage the weld the hub back together long enough to drive the final lap pretty slow, so we weren't a DNF.

So, for me, anyway, the actual dollar cost barely even figures in. It's just a very fun event.

Oh I see. But with LeMons you get alot of seat time. We just use 3 drivers.

On the oil I used Rotella 10w40 at first. Then I got some Valvoline race oil with more phosforous and zinc in it. Those original rod bearings need all the help they can get. I checked them and they were fine so they're still in it.

Everybody thinks we have a cheater motor or parts in it. But what they don't understand is most of these race tracks are run in 3rd gear 90% of the time. The "money" gear. The other 10% is either 4th or 2nd.

We'll see how many more SHO's enter these races, especially after this last one with 6 in it. I bet every time the other cars looked in their mirrors there was another SHO passing them.....

yeah we were 2nd and 3rd at CMP. 4th gear? wow, that's a pretty fast track

yeah Jay has come up with a real cash cow. I saw where they grossed 1+ million on '09 w/ 10 events and got 16 lined up this year. That's pretty amazing for a bunch of crap cans.

There were 6 SHO teams there at the race only one team (SR-72) had paid professional drivers in the car. Just me mind you but I don't get how prideful you are of these cheaters. You knew all along they were going to drive this car in Lemon's races where the car was supposedly to be a $500. car. I don't know you from adam but I have NO respect for you what so ever. Again just me. Sad, sad, sad.

Thats ok ....I dont you from adam so my feelings arent hurt.

But before u start hurling daggers u might want to ask me how I did sell my car.

Since your hurling daggers I will defend my SHO honor that goes back to 91 ... a tad more than yours Im sure.

I sold this car in Ebay .... to someone in Texas. Didnt know who the guy was nor did I care. All I wanted was to be sure the money was good and thats it. The money was good.

I found out after the car was sold what it was to be used for .. some lemons race which at that time I have never heard of it. I now of course know what its all about. Last year the new owner called me up and told me about the first race and that he blew a head gasket .... I refered him to Doug L for any and all repairs which is where he took the car.

Your dam right Im proud of the car I made and built myself. It would run circles around most cars ... not all but most .... and some on this forum have seen it in action with me behind the wheels.
So next time Adam before you speak .... think twice about it because I am proud of how I built my car. I am glad ( sorta of ) that I sold it for decent monie on Ebay to buyer I have never seen or heard prior to sale date.

What they do .... or how they portray the car is totally up to them. I got nothing to do with it. Im proud of my car not cheaters nor do I recall saying in my original post on this thread that I was proud of the cheaters. I am not part of that conspiracy nor would I take part.

I re read my post thinking I might have said something out of line. I didnt. And your a moderator too?

You owe me an apology youngen .... I was worken on SHO's and helpen SHO owners out before you were in diapers ( educated guess on my part )

Um, I don't know what Don has to do with the cheaters. Maybe I'm missing some back channels here, but all I see is Don proud of the car. Whether he knew of what they were going to do with it exactly or not, it's not his car anymore once he got paid.
