Nice job guys. Looks like the car was slightly more reliable than last time, haha. The Rolla finished 35th out of the 59 entries. This was mainly due to the stub shaft of our left front axle shearing off about 2hrs into the race and taking about 3hrs to find and get parts, plus another hour for the actual repair.

Then that damn #10 Cavalier T-boned us on day 2, as you mentioned . Our driver was taking that sharp right wide and the Cavi decided to dive-bomb us. The cavi driver claimed he had some shifter binding and got distracted or something. He came by to apologize afterwards, but theose guys were driving like a$$hats all weekend and we have to had seen them get at least 5 black flags over the weekend as our pits were right across from the penalty box. They didn't even gt a major punishment for the hit :madflame:. They hit us so hard that the passenger side door bar of the cage got kinked, so we had to add another bar to repass tech. Luckily our pit neighbors had a welder and tube they were gracious enough to lend us. We were off track for about another half hour due to the whole incident. Luckily our driver was fine and we just got punted into the grass and no other cars were around at the time. Here's a shot of the damage:

That sucks. I was looking for the other car. He must've sped off like nothing happened? I think that was even the 2nd accident for the cav for the weekend. Saturday, I noticed their rear 1/4 got smashed in from some contact or hitting a barrier.

Good job guys, wanted sooooo bad to go, worked 12's both days.
I love the South track, the long sweepers in the back (first garage you see belongs to Bobby Rahal) and especially that turn 1 double apex into that left. Got sideways myself there last time when a guy gave me the point and just about stopped in front of me.

Charnal House Racingis still racing this thing. The SHO continues to be an excellent powerplant for our little MetSHO. The 3.0L did 5 races, developed a little smoke at startup, and was swapped for a 3.2L. Since adding a trans cooler and redline D4 the MTX's are staying healthy.

We just updated the cooling system to completely block off the warm-up loop. This gets rid of most the hoses under the throttle body and makes bleeding the system easier.

Next up, we are turbocharging it on a lemons budget.

My buddy runs a dyno tuning shop and is an EEC whiz. Going to burn a chip for it using a quarterhorse.
Turbos: Twin 6258 EFRs. We will boost it until it makes ~275-300wtq. Hopefully only 5-7psi.
Fuel system: Walbro 180, EVO 550cc injectors. #8 feed/returns. Stock FPR
ECM: X2J (chipped for quarterhorse)
MAF: 04 Taurus slot style. Going to mount in a 3" tube (blow-thru). Can I use its IAT instead of the SHO IAT?

Does anyone have a .bins to share? Shoot me a PM.
Also looking for:
spare MTX
spare X2J
spare CCRM

We are located in West Michigan.

Lots more information in our build thread here. Turbo stuff starts on page 29.

6-7 psi should put you around 280-300. That's what I'm running in my car.

If the transfer function of the IAT in the 04 maf is the same as the stock one you can use it. I'd recommend just drilling the intake piping and putting the stock one in though.

Are you guys aware of the x2j air limit at low rpms? Essentially below 3k rpm if you get into boost it will lean out because the ecu clips the airflow at a pre determined value. More info available here. I can help you guys figure out a workaround with whatever you're using for tuning.

Also not sure about the using the stock fpr. You might overpower it with that fuel pump.

Any particular reason you guys are going with twins instead of a large single? A large single has way less piping.

Really cool project by the way!

Thanks for the tip on the airflow clip! We are using Quarterhorse for the dyno tuning, then just burning a chip and installing it. My dyno tuner is getting the strategy files from Adam at Pops Racing.

We have been running this fuel pump since the beginning and we have a fuel pressure gage. The FPR has been able to deal with the extra capacity and maintains the OEM fuel pressure setpoint. SO I think it will be OK... we will see!

These turbos were nearly free to us, but the downside is that they are quite small. At first We wanted to use only use one of them, but it would've taken 20-30psi to get the ~35lb/min we are shooting for and they would've choked a bit up top. In the end we decided to just use both of them, despite the added complexity as you mentioned.

Thanks again!

The Other Woman's single turbo with an 8 lb. blow off gets her about 300 to the ground also, but it takes a second to come on boost.

I'm not sure how far along you guys are, but a really good single turbo for these is a CT26 off of an mk3 supra. You can get one for a few hundred bucks and it spools great and flows well over 35 lbs/min. Also all the flanges and oil fittings can be had for about $100 off of ebay. I've got one on my car and I'm really happy with it. The cost of the turbo will be probably be offset by how much you save on extra piping needed.

What clutch are you guys using? I'm starting to slip my stock one on about 7 psi around 5k.

And if you guys want a copy of my tune I'd be happy to send it to you. Its not great but it works well enough.

What maf are you planning to use?

Thanks Dirk,

We considered using an OEM turbo like the CT26 at first, but these high tech EFRs were nearly free from a 24hr of lemans team. They are all plumbed up and we actually started the car a couple weeks back. It sounds evil!

The clutch is a stock pressure plate with a south bend clutch stg1 endurance disc. We love south bend clutch and recommend them to everyone! They are the best.

For the MAF we are using an 05+ slot style OEM ford maf in a 3" pipe on the cold side of the intercooler.

Went to the dyno with Adam from pops racings x2j strategy. My tuner used a quarterhorse and we quickly got it up and running great at low load with the evo 550cc injectors and the ford slot maf.

These turbos seem very responsive, even light load we were getting 0-1psi at 3000rpm.

Getting into boost threshold we had some issues. With some heat and boost pressure the fuel injector-to-head grommet/seals started leaking pretty badly. We couldnt find replacements locally so went home for the day.

Now all back together with shosource injector seals and pressure tested to 20psi. We are going back this Sunday, wish us luck.

Thanks SHOsource!
