And Don beats me to the punch. Hey Don, is this the garage queen you brought to the Conventions with the under-body mirror to show off how clean it was?

Um, I don't know what Don has to do with the cheaters. Maybe I'm missing some back channels here, but all I see is Don proud of the car. Whether he knew of what they were going to do with it exactly or not, it's not his car anymore once he got paid.

I rest my case your honor

That car was my original SUPER SHO that I bought in 91 ... black with beige leather.

I sold it to a guy in Ohio .... and am actually looking to see if I can find it to buy it back ( hint hint )

The Sr 72 was a car that I actually found in Ft Myers ... paid $500 for it ... and when I sold my every day driver ... I took out all of the go fast parts and put them in this 89 SHO ... now known as the Sr 72.

The SR 72 changed over several years to the point where it was before I sold it.

Most dont know why I called it the Sr 72 ? ... do you ?

Mark Nunnally had the SR 71 .... loved the name and respected the man so I called my go fast SHO the SR 72 ...

Last trivia for the day. My SR 72 had an original set of ninja sub frame bushings from the firehawk people ... that I got to know.

These bushing were first sold by me along with lots of other goodies in the early 90's at the conventions ... the company was called Donelson Motorsports .... dam I miss SHO's !

Glad you're still poking around these SHO parts Don. Hopefully you'll get back in the SHO game sometime.

You owe me an apology youngen .... I was worken on SHO's and helpen SHO owners out before you were in diapers ( educated guess on my part )

Really? That's hilarious. My birth date is 8/13/1949 so I guess that makes you 90 something. I bought my 1st SHO in 94 it was a 93atx that I put 185k on before it became a parts car because if the lousy transmission ford put in those cars. Before that I drove a Taurus LX I drove for 8 years and put 217k on. Since my 1st SHO I've owned 2 92 mtxs and drive one as my DD now.

Yea i may have mis-spoke about you knowingly selling the car to someone you knew was using the car for Lemon's racing. And you would be really proud if the car had won. But the fact still remains the car wasn't a $500. car and shouldn't be racing in Lemon's races. If they had won you could brag to your buds "hey my car won, doesn't mater they cheated tho, and were diving a ringer".

Im 53 which makes u close to 60 ...and if you were in diapers .... your correct ... that would make me ancient ...
the pointe I was making was that a man of your age wouldnt have made the random comments based on my original post. I surely thought you were youngen based on how you called me out for no reason.

If you have been in the SHO community as long as I have ... ie ... since 1991 .... U should know me and my reputation in the "days" ....**** we might have even met at one of the many conventions I have attended. So double shame on you for assuming what you did in your original post about me.

Point is ... you chastised me in public and you were wrong. If they had won would they have deserved it in that type of race? of course not ... but than we can also debate does everyone else who entered ... did they follow ALL the rules ... thats another whole chapter for debating tomorrow.

Im glad Sergio won

Your apology is accepted

Last year when I sold it to larry ... the owner of the resort .... they blew a head gasket mid way through last years lemons race and had to retire the Sr 72 when leading the event by 20 laps

This year .... with some minor work done to it ( cough bull*** #&$)Q# ) they came in first place on saturday ( at least thats the second hand info I got )

Hi Don.

First of all, thanks for the props.

Now, you know how Texans like to brag and boast.

Last October's LeMons race was SR72's first Lemons race. They did not EVER lead by 20 laps. They might have led 20 laps in a row. Our fastest lap was a tenth of a second faster than their's if you can believe the My Laps records. The 45 Integra had the fastest lap of the race at 1:57.xx, best we did was 2:00.xx.

http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=1356087 Page down the SR72 finished 91.

This past weekend's race, we had a 7 lap lead at then end of Saturday. So I don't know which race Larry was watching. His car was 18 laps down. Their teamates car the 50 BMW was one lap ahead of their SHO. I'm looking at a picture of the actual Sat. 8pm results page.

Larry's driver's race like it's a 30 minute sprint race. Dive bombing cars, very aggressive driving, etc. Using 100% of the car all the time will land you in the pits with a broken car or the penalty box. That's probably why they had brake problems.

We've done 7 of these races. The first 2 or 3 races we were idiots. We learn something each time. We have found out what works and how to stay out on the track.

The LeMons organizers say it in the driver's meeting. It's an endurance race, you have to endure.

Don D has no dog on this hunt, as we say down here. Once he sold the car, it ain't his. I've known Don since my first SHO Convention in Atlanta in 1993, no problems with him.

I don't really have a problem with the 97 car being in the LeMons races, other than it really doesn't qualify. The hood is worth more than $500. The team supposedly hires drivers. I find that utterly(pun intended) absurd for this kind of race, but it's not my money. But the next one of those drivers brake checks me, after I let him by, I will not take it as kindly as I did this past weekend. Actually, that won't happen again, because I will not ever wave them by again. They have used up all of their chits. No other drivers on the track pulled that kind of crap.

I wish they'd used some number other than 97... :squint:

yeah they could have disguise the car better.

I have no idea how they got that car through tech the first time passing it off as a $500 car. Its a beautiful set up car. I wouldn't use it for Lemons however most of the demolition derby driving has been cracked down.

I did pass the titee 97 car with just some clean apexes/braking. We all knew something was up a few races ago when it was pulling on other SHOs with no problems down the straightways.

Nice car but not a $500 car by anymeans however it its nice to take a beater SHO and pass a nicely prepped track SHO. :)

Just like others have said here, you can hear the idle of the 97 is way different than any of the other LeMons SHO's. The lumpy idle is a dead giveaway.

Looking back at other LeMons winning cars, you find a Corolla FX-16. What kind of HP does it make, 120? But those guys are experienced NASA endurance racers. They know what it takes to win. Driving like a madman is not the way.

An 83 Celica wins an other race. What kind of power does it make? 150?

So all out power doesn't mean you are going to win. If that were true, a 5.0 Mustang would win every race. Those guys are hard to pass, but they don't last. And they suck gas.

Sergio

No problem with the props .... .

And as I stated the info i got about my old car and about the race itself was second hand info since I havent been to texas in along while.

I was told that my old car finished 1st on saturday by Doug .... I am assuming Doug L got his info from the owner of the car who I havent spoken to in over a year.

I totally agree that being this was a endurance race a smart driver would drive accordingly. Dive bombing or really aggresive driving will do just that .. get u into the pits .... that I totally agree with.

And yes I am getting the itch to get back into the sho business ..... I really never should have sold the Sr 72 .... Chances are if I hadnt sold it i wouldnt have used it but thats not the point.

Anyway .... great run Sergio :woo-hoo:

ps Now if i was driving the ole 97 ...... might have been a different story ....... LMAO~! !!

yeah I learned a valuable lesson not to beat on the cars too much. I overheated the tranny on ETL on Saturday trying to coming out of corners quicker by hammering it in 2nd/power shifting.

Sunday after the tranny cooled and went back to normal I ended running the fastest lap of all the sho's by leaving in the car in third gear, braking and driving cleaner lines.

Not about horsepower but about clean, penalty free driving along with smooth driver changes.

The SHO is a great car for this race has the motor just revs and revs all day long even in 100 degree temps. Its such a durable motor.....just have to have driver's that don't do boneheaded driving (me!)

I don't doubt that.

I bet if our 3 guys drove that car it would finish at the top or even win. We've proved that we know how to win. :)

Sometimes I think that "graduating" to another level .... is really a step back. I have gone to the team shelby forum where my current driver is 07 Shelby GT500 that dynoes at 553 @ the rear wheels .... really nice ride .... love the car but it aint no SHO !

My screen name over on that forum is still " 1badsho" .... that ought to tell you something !

But its like your first love .... I still miss my SHO .... I know it inside and out .... know every bolt size and can do ALL the work myself
