Bet you can't guess what this connector is...

You have an EGR DFPE sensor on your mtx intake? And if yes, does it have wires going to it?

No I don't. Exhaust manifold is not tapped for it; intake is not tapped for it; computer is an X2J; sticker on the car says X2J. Nothing is leading me to believe this was a California car.

That looks like the DPFE connector. On the MTX it bolts to the rear head right where the connector is.

So was it just a dummy connector that sits there and was for a DPFE car? Some MTX's got it and some didn't? Good old SHO Ford parts bin? I mean on the 3.2 ATX car's there is no way that connector would reach the DPFE.

Fox bodies have a plug similar to that going to the evap smog stuff. Every one of my shos had that plug with nothing going to it. I remember someone telling me years ago it was something CA related. I want to say it was posted on here before too but I cant find it.

I agree it's probably something Cali related, but the weird part is this is not a Cali car. Many SHO's I've looked at do not have this plug nor would this reach standard emissions equipment (at least based on 93-95 ATX's, I've never seen a CA MTX car). I mean we all know Ford liked to use the parts bin, but I'm still curious as to what it's actually for.

I'm sure they used the same harness across the board for the MTX cars. Cali car or not, the plug will be there. Someone with a cali MTX needs to post with a pic.

This, Ford did not use different harness for Cali and non Cali cars. Also its not new for ford to leave random plugs on the harness that went to things that were never used, in the US or production models. They left the Day Time Running Lights plug on the harness for the non US models.

EGR related. Doesn't matter, the harness is the same. Look near your MAF harness you'll see another connector tied to it that goes to the EGR vacuum solenoid.

Well there's your problem, the ATX has a different harness. This is meant to go to the EGR sensor that mounts right where that plug is, on the head.

I think all three of my 92s had it. I read once on here what it was but I forgot. The one I own now is an x2j non cali emissions.

Matt,

Isn't the sensor for the EGR, called the DFPE, located on the rear plenum? Or am I again as confused as a baby in a topless bar?

I know the actual vacuum operated valve is there at the front end of the plenum, with the DFPE right behind it.

On the 3.2 that's where it is. The 3.0 uses the older plastic version and it's sandwiched in a little metal case that's mounted to the end of the head like this:

Dsc00909
Dsc00910
Dsc00911

This is one of my spare engines, that's why it's not all hooked up. For wiring diagram color reference this is an '89 engine.

I've seen many MTX cars without this plug which is why I was so confused. I figured Ford used the good old parts bin and just left it unplugged.

That's it! See I never knew the 3.0L car's EGR was in a different location (although I did assume that's what this was).

Thanks for all the help guy's now I can rest easy at night.
