I heard a while back you can do most bottom end bearing replacements without dropping motor, just by lifting the car and dropping the oil pan. Cant remember who said it but is it possible to replace any bearings without pulling the motor. Rod, main etc?

Rod bearings are easy in car, but you should get a full face shield as you'll be staring directly up into the engine. The engine is still mounted to the trans and subframe. The only tricky part is wiggling the pan back on without disturbing the RTV on the long rails, as you have to blindly get the oil pickup through the windage tray in the pan.

Mains would require pulling the transmission, as the crank would need to come out. At that point you'd have your head directly under an engine that's supported by either a hoist or a support bar. No thanks. And the mains aren't usually the bearings that go out.

The Phoenix site and the SHOtimes site are both good resources in addition to this forum. Phoenix has the edge in illustrated how-to's tho.

Just take your time and you'll be good to go. Does SHOphoenix correct the torque numbers for the pickup tube? I don't remember...
