hey everyone, tried searching for an answer in here but couldn't find one.
2016 sho with PP ... and a livernois tune yes i know :( ...
car sat for a few weeks was driving the truck, went to use car and crank but no start and threw the 0335 code. finally had the time to replace the crank position sensor and luckily was able to get to it by removing the oil filter and not the turbo etc. (its on the front of the engine for this model year or left hand side if looking from flywheel end contrary to some other threads i read here) had the battery disconnected and tried one method i'd read for clearing KAM by leaving the headlight switch on and the disconnected ground cable shorted to the positive for an hour. hooked it back up and went to start it with new crank sensor installed and same thing, crank but no start, same code thrown.

am i missing something in my order of operations? do i need to flash the asbuilt tune from the livernois "mytuner" thing first? do i need to clear stuff with forscan first? or am i missing something completely different that could be causing this issue? car doesn't even have a hundred thousand miles on it yet.

eta: also my initial thought was potential mouse damage to some wires but i'm not seeing any damage to the harnesses in the engine compartment at all, and my understanding of the crank relearn for this vehicle is that it requires the engine to be started first.

thanks in advance for any tips or advice on how to get this figured out.

A few questions on the crank no start and the crank sensor replacement.

Is the crank sensor an OEM Ford part or an after market?

Did you measure the resistance of each sensor as a comparison?

Did you see any damage on the sensor and/or crank trigger wheel?

Did you use Forscan to monitor the crank signal as in RPM?

Is it showing engine RPM?

With the crank sensor out and an endoscope camera you can look through the crank sensor hole to check for the trigger wheel rotation and conditions.

The crank sensor is a 3 wire sensor with the following circuits, a VREF of 5.0 V, a Signal Return which is a supplied PCM ground and the RPM signal back to the PCM.

After replacing the crank sensor you should reset KAM and it should start if everything is ok. Once it is running the engine needs to be brought up to temperature and then with a capable scan tool you must perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure.

Hope this helps.

i need to post a pic... bc damn. it was mouse damage like i was afraid of. pulled the wipers and cowling etc to get to the pcm after replacing the crank sensor changed nothing... they chewed 9 or 10 wires partially bare and cut thru several wires to the pcm. i probably got lucky nothing worse happened.
spent about 5 hours cutting/splicing and soldering and shrink tubing everything and another couple cleaning it all out before that. i dislike the fact that the pcm was placed in such a bad spot where predictably the mice would go near the fresh air intake for hvac. do these final gen of taurus suffer from the same soy based wire jacketing as others i read about?

then after not getting it going right away and having a hard idle etc not being able to do the crank relearn with forscan realized i should not have reverted to the stock tune related to the 2 bar map component that i forgot about. (have had this tune for several years)

the stock crank sensor was most likely totally fine but i think i'm leaving the new one in r/t PITA factor.

i didn't really see a way to remove that tray that covers the fresh air intake for hvac in the FSM. looks like its glued down pretty hard anyway so i guess maybe its not meant to be removed... but would be nice to be able to pull that and the screen and clean from that end periodically. thinking i might get creative with the hardware cloth after this and repellent? i cleaned the **** out of it but i know they like to come back to the same spot anyway.

thank you all so much for the help and replies.Mouse damageMousedmgMouserepairs
