I replace the rod bearings number 2 was bad. i could shake it in the crank. anyways i replace them, with the new ones. i didn't even drive it 5 mile and that thing was sounding as bad as it did before i replaced them. i drop the oil pan and and it was the same one rod #2 was wore out. 5 MILES what the ****. others looked excellent. maybe a clog passage in the crank? if soo what the **** do i do. i looked around for some info. but no info on my direct issue. does anyone have a procedure to yanking out the cranks.

Thanks.

If the bearing was loose around the crank, and you replaced it with another standard size bearing, the crank could be damaged as well, which would require a different bearing size. This would make the bearing/piston rod loose around the crank.

the bearing look like it got very hot, blue tint to it. to me it just seems suspect that it fail before, cause of a lack of oil. as i said before, the orginals looked great and the second set looked excellent except the number 2 bearing. i don't have any pic of the bearings cause i trashed them i can take a pic of the crank and the rod and cap tomm. or i can plasticgauge it AGAIN. and throw in a new set. at what point should i be looking at the crank for an issue? i think i should mic the crank where number 2 sits. and see if it's out of round.

You need to mic the rod journal on the crank. If the big end of the rod was overheated, it's toast - look for bluing at the rod neck, or on the cap.

What do you mean by spun? do you mean like the bearings weren't locked into their seats?
Exactly, the bearing shells won't be split where the road and cap come apart.

Friend of mine brought a spun SHO rod over some time back - one bearing shell had spun and was sandwiched perfectly against the other shell.

I'm willing to bet, no... i'm 100% sure the bearing was spun in the first place... You slapped another set of bearings in there and a few miles down the road, the same knock was back. Classic sign of a spun rod bearing.

If you could move the rod, most likely the rod is out-of-round. Sorry, engines are not that simple to fix.

EDIT: And even if you did find that the #2 journal wasn't getting oil(let's just throw that one out there), it's too late now anyways, the engine is probably toast now.
