Did you tear down your block? Did you find out what was causing the low compression? Just wondering why you aren’t using the original block.
I plan on taking the block down this weekend if the stars align. basically, I love the car enough where I just don't want to **** around with any possibilities of motor issues by using the original mill.
I basically parked the car in okay running condition with no clattering or slapping so I know it's nothing major aside from possibly a ring or a cracked piston.
wanting everything perfect for the car is the main reason for going with a fresh mill but I also have a 1941 61 series Cadillac stashed behind my shop that I was thinking this used motor might be perfect for. So, there is some background but ultimately I just don't want to have any compromises for the Taurus.

I totally agree and understand.

As for that Cadillac.... that needs a build thread too!!

It is kind of a cool situation. I stumbled upon it at an extended family member's house during a family reunion and learned that the car was originally owned by the president of Montgomery Ward. I still have some of the paperwork for it and I've been dying to rebuild a flathead V8 but at the same time I think having that Ecoboost v6 in there would be pretty freaking cool!
I'll snap some pictures once the 18 ft of snow is gone, LOL

I love the idea! Put an F-150 transmission on that thing and let the fun begin!

That was EXACTLY what I was thinking.....All I wanna do is roll around town with some friends, dressed up as 30's gangsters LOL. It will be a fun project. I'm thinking patina style but we'll see.

Man, just processed my order with Ortiz. That is an expensive relationship!!!
@FiveLeeter918 Throw me a Large Tee shirt and some stickers if you can. I always like to advertise a good company!

Man, ordering parts for this thing is proving to be quite the pain in the ass.
It's there a "list" or recommendation of torque to yield bolts that must be replaced during a repair/build?
I'm not having great luck with tasca...

Am I the only one that can't view the pics being posted? Or rather the links there to?

I can't see them either through tapatalk, but if I switch over to the website I can see them.

Got it. Yea, I use the Tapatalk app like 99.9% of the time now from my mobile.

Which apparently, is entirely the problem.

Thanks for the input/reply.

I wonder if there is anything that I can do on my end? I don't know any better so, all I do is upload them to the media page on my profile of the forum and then embed the link from there.

Yeah, my OneDrive hosted images stopped showing up in TT last October and been trying to get @Shaggy to address the issue with a site update. But he's impossible to reach and never responds...TT says they can't reach him either to install the patch. Anyway, I really like TT, makes life easier for me at least, but it's got issues.

Tapatalk is like playing CoD with the FoV slider all the way down.

Yeah, it ain't great but, on a daily basis, works better then desktop or website version for me. I hate having to log in to each individual forum I frequent everytime I visit. Great to have one place to log into and check all my forums. I got like 6 I follow and they all put my notifications and messages in one place. And no, I don't set up my phone to stay logged into sites full time. I clear that stuff out pretty regularly.

Morning Everyone! I hope y'all are having a kick ass weekend!
Looks like my motor will be delivered from Tasca Monday! WOOT.

So, I'm working on the heads at the moment and had a general porting question.
I see people doing a lot of work to the intake mani, primarily.
I was more curious about the head and especially the exhaust manifold.
Holy crap, there's like .375" between the gasket and the manifold. Do we need that ALL of that material?
Has anyone taken some out or better off just giving it a quick polish? I was worried there was that much material for a reason related to boost, temp, etc....

I basically have the same question about the exhaust ports on the head. Intake side looks pretty good.
How much have people generally taken off on the intake and/or exhaust?
The hole diameter is shockingly smaller than the gasket ID in regards to the exhaust side.
I'd like to do a little work to them, if anything clean them up burr and polish wise before sending them out to be leak-down checked.

Heads you want velocity out of the exhaust side to spool quickly. Port matching gets you majority of the benefits from porting. That's what I did. Just a port match between the intake manifold and heads then barely cleaned up the exhaust manifolds. I skipped on the head work for the time being as we don't have cams to even optimize any real porting so benefits technically are there, but not really much to be had with the stock cams.

Crykie! My exhaust ports are about 5.5mm x 6mm smaller on the head than the manifold!! My intake is VERY close but very rough on the head

Port the exhaust manifolds. Port match everything if you can. I forget exactly what it is, but for me and my 2010, the stock exhaust manifolds are crap. Some 2013’s have them. But the greater majority 13’s and all newer years have the better flowing exhaust manifolds. I think stock to stock the newer design flows almost twice as much air. So I bought the 13+ manifolds and had them ported and port matched to my turbo gaskets, and turbos port matched to gaskets too. And thermal coated the exhaust manifolds.
