Hello all. I looked but I don’t think my issue is an issue anyone else has had. So I picked up a 2011 SHO PP that wouldn’t start. I got it started and it was knocking real bad. So I figured cam phasers. I pulled the engine because I thought it would be easier to swap it all out that way. Started tearing into it and realized that the cam phasers weren’t gunked up or damaged. So I tore into the bottom and found the crank had broke in half. All the way through. So it’s literally in two pieces.

That being said, everything with the block, heads, cams, etc seem fine. Question is, should I get a new block or rebuild the one I have? Also, is it worth building this engine or just doing a stock rebuild? I would like to because I think it would be fun. I had a 2020 Explorer ST and it was fun so I’m leaning towards building the car. Not as much as @802SHO, but a nice mild build that I could still have fun with. Any thoughts and advice is welcome. Pictures of the crank for laughs. Thank you!

I have no input on your build question. But, damn, that sucks. I've seen that with dropped crankshaft before, but not in the engine.

That is a new one for sure.

To be honest. Your Explorer ST is superior in every way. Building an SHO probably isnt going to be the most optimal in forms of performance or sanity.

I thought about just getting a new crank and putting the engine back together and selling the car and getting an ST again. Not sure what the best way to go about this is.

The latter would be best honestly.
