After alot of thought and cussing and dicussing I dicided to see if my problem was electrical. Upon probing of the harness going into the ICM I noticed when a certain wire was grounded that the engire would fire. This told me the CPS must be bad after all. So I tore back into it.

Upon further investigation I noticed the CPS had been eaten into. Then I saw the culprit! The woodruff key on the crankshaft had sheared off behind the balancer where the crank pulley was located. The pulley was about 20 degrees off the key,( my whole power loss thing was now clear). The plate behind the pulley was broken off and was just free spinning, thus the loss of fire to the coil!!

Nnow all I have to do is locate a new crank pulley and woodruff key and I am back in business. I wonder what would cause that to shear off like that. To much spirited driving I guess. So it looks like a month long ordeal is finally over. WHEWW! thumbs_u thumbs_u :)

I've seen this before. Probably caused by a damper bolt that wasn't adequately torqued. You can get the Woodruff key through Ford or get a 12" bar of keyway stock from an auto parts store (Pep Boys or NAPA) for abut $1.50 and cut your own. How does the slot in the crankshaft look? Was there any damage to the crankshaft? That can be a problem.

We put a couple of burrs on the shaft when we had to chisel the old key out, but nothing a little filing won't take care of.

WHat's the torque for the dampner bolts?
