What’s good? My name is Zpak and I just fulfilled a childhood dream.

It all started when I was eight years old. I was car shopping with my dad, I believe he was looking at a used ****** actually, but when we stepped into the showroom there it was; the brand new and first ever 1989 Taurus SHO! It was black on black and I thought it was the coolest car ever. I didn’t know why at the time but I knew there was something special about it. Later, I remember my dad telling me that “those are a high performance package and supposed to be fast.” And that kindled my lifelong love for sleepers, and a silly Taurus that just happens to have a really cool engine.

Fast forward to my senior year of high school a buddy of mine had a ‘90. I was so jealous! I never forgot about them and still wanted one. But, by 1998 and living in northwest Indiana any SHO was either a total beater or way out of my teenage budget. I did manage however to procure an ‘89… Mercury Sable.

Time passed and in 2017 I finally obtained my first SHO. The same black on black I fell in love with all those years ago only a 2014 model year. That’s when I discovered this forum and learned from all you bad Mo Fo’s how to snag an 11 second quarter in a four door family sedan. The work I put in and enjoyment I got out of it pinned it to my favorite car I’d ever owned. There were some cool ones in there too, ‘66 Galaxie 500, ‘73 F100 slammed with a .030 over 428 and saucy isky cam…. However, as luck would have it, in 2023 the SHO’s number was up for the 3.5 ecoboost timing chain and water pump job. At the time I was in a strange place in my life and long story short, out of frustration I sent her packing.
…instantly regretted my poor decision making. Well maybe it was actually smart, but we’re SHO people, you understand. As time went on, and after much internal struggle, I came to the realization I was not over it. It was boring now without an SHO.

Anyway, I’ve still always dreamt of owning a first or second gen and I happened to stumble across a forum member mentioning he was considering selling his ‘93. Being that it’s something I’ve always wanted, and at the time found myself SHO’less I decided to shoot him a message, basically just to see what he wanted for it. That began what has now become a near two year friendship with a man named Rob as he laid out the story behind his two ‘93 SHO’s.

Where we left off nearly a year ago was the cost of shipping was prohibitive (California to Indiana) even though he was asking an overly fair price for what became a package deal for not one but both his cars. Which included his pride and joy ‘93 and a second ‘93 that has front end damage.

Looking back, I’ve realized after the months and months of communication not only did we build a friendship but I believe he was interviewing me to make sure I was the right person to pass his SHO’s on to. Lo and behold, due to Rob’s incredible and unfathomable generosity, I accepted a special delivery made to my home last night. Allow me to introduce SHO 1, and SHO2.

Now, I’m going to go ahead and both thank and apologize in advance to all of you long time SHO pros because very soon I will need to lean on your expertise.

I’ll explain what I’m working with on SHO2 after I figure out myself what is what with which but for now, here is SHO1

I noticed this pulley, anyone know if that is the underdrive pulley or just a dress up piece?

Nice upgrades, Chad may know about that pulley. The car has a lot of the upgrades that you can't find anymore

Unfortunately, I just learned he had the trunks both stuffed with parts including badges, trim pieces, two brand new tires, NOS head lights, tail lights, fog lights, manuals, paperwork, and random SHO stuff he had collected…. All gone! They’ve both been cleaned out of everything extra he gave me.

Shipping company said they’d need photo proof of what was in them. Yeah, those photos don't exist. There’s a special place in **** for thieves.

That is a SHO Shop underdrive water pump pulley. They came in 3 piece sets. The alternator and power steering pump should also have similar looking aluminum pulleys.

Very nice buy! That car has been loved.

I’m told they’re in good shape underneath he just liked the covers. I’ll investigate when I get to the interior detail.
I loved the look over my trashed interior back then. I did have to remove them because-- really hot with black interior around here and the neoprene traps heat.

SHO1 at this point is still not running. It was previously thought to be a bad fuel pump. In my limited tinkering thus far all roads lead in that direction. It screams when you hit the key. Like it’s dry and locked up. I have a new walbro on the bench.

Outside of that, I believe there may be a parasitic drain on the battery. It’s sat for a few years due to the poor running condition it developed, fingers crossed fuel pump related. The battery was on a tender but last year when he was working on diagnosis he found it bad. Replaced it, and now when I received it it’s shot again. Charged to 12.6, under 24 hours later dropped to 10.4. So yeah, lots of fun ahead.

Have someone bang on the underside of the fuel tank while you try to crank it. Alot of times the fuel pump will get a dead spot in it and some jarring will get it to pick up again and temporarily start pumping. Also, have someone tap on the CCRM while you try to crank it. The relay can sometimes get stuck and a few good whacks with the plastic handle on a large screwdriver can do the trick. Had a no start no fuel pump situation one time and a few good licks on the CCRM did the trick and I never had another problem with that car.

Appreciate the advice. I did tap on the CCRM right off the bat for good measure. Thanks to SHO forum I picked up on that trick. I’ve always hung out in the in the Gen 4 section but I have read through quite a few Gen 1/2 troubleshooting and mechanical issue threads over the years.

After the battery situation, I went to grab the other one from SHO2 just to keep testing but found it was side post. Said, well that ain’t gonna work. After I get a fresh battery and more days off I’ll be able to dig back in. I desperately want to drive this thing before I’m covered in snow and salt for five months.

Oh, also he told me the gas gauge stopped working so I need to drop the tank anyway. Is there an easily discernible way to distinguish between the 16 and 18.6 gallon tanks so I can have the sending unit ready? I have a needle gauge so I’m assuming it’s not the digital one.

I have a couple of the more modern gearotor Bosch fuel pumps kicking around new in box. This style of pump avoids creating pressure spikes at the fuel rail eg the flow is smoother than the stock style pumps.

Regarding the thievery put up a detailed list. Only way to move something like that is eBay or FB or here. We can all keep half an eye out
