I have a 97 with over 200k and I'm hearing a constant ticking and after a few minutes light smoke coming from under hood. Now it won't shift into third gear and I have developed an oil spot on my driveway. HELP!!!!! The cams have never been welded.

the car didnt appear to be well taken care of and was fresh off the dealers lot (still had the dealers invioce on the seat and floor mat covers) the passengers side exhaust was being held on with a bungie cord after the hanger broke... i stripped a ton of parts off of that car for my sable. though it did have slotted front rotors on it so maybe the previous owners knew what they had? idk i just doubt they had been done. every v8 sho owner i have ever met in person in this area had no idea what cam welding was or why it was needed.

So, basically because the car did not look well cared for and most do not know about the entire idea. OK, that makes sense, I just did not understand where you were coming from on the conclusion.
