Hi Everyone I have read quite a few posts here how to disconnect the speedometer cable from the Instrument Panel on Gen 1 / 2 cars. The upper and lower cables need to be separated in order to give enough clearance to pull the instrument panel out to get your hand behind.
I cant find the connect between the two cables. I have looked and looked. Can someone describe exactly where to look for it? How close is it to the brake booster, or some other identifiable part?

Follow the lower speedo cable from where it enter the t r a n n y. It enters in a vertical direction. As you go upwards, you will see a disconnect between the lower and upper cable. Are you just removing the instrument panel? You can disconnect upper cable from the instrument panel without pulling the panel out. It twist off if I recall. You have to feel for the connector in the back. Removing it is the easy one, getting it back on is more difficult.

It slight forward of the brake booster, and go straight down to the top of the t r a n n y to see where the lower speedo cable enter into the t r a n n y

Thanks I will try this. There is not a lot movement once the IP screws are removed and you pull back.

The speedometer cable on my 93ATX attaches to the IP with a builtin clip. You will need to depress the cable plastic to disengage.
