SM,

Did you measure the stack height of the old assembly and compare to the new one?

Otherwise the throw-out bearing should hit the fingers of the pressure plate at the right place.

It was the input shaft going through the clutch disks. I just wasn't able to push it through. I just think it was a case of not being able get the correct angle with the correct pressure. Once I evenly starting putting pressure on the belt housing (via longer bolts) it went on pretty easy. It was just tedious. Everything else was a breeze.

I just think the adaptor is limiting the pedal through, thus not allowing the throw out bearing to extend enough to disengage both disks completely. I will post pics about why I think the adaptor is the main cause. If it isn't, then I will probably have to add spacers behind the throw out bearing (which SPEC says shouldn't be the case)...which means the trans comes out again.
Dumb question. You do have the correct pilot shaft alignment tool, correct?

Haha, no dumb question. Yes it is the right alignment tool. I checked with both the old clutch and the new.

I did. Everything seems to be good, however I am still not getting dis-engagement. I spoke with SPEC and they are telling me I need to shim the throw out bearing forward. I know with the Mc Cloud you have to shim and set the air gap. However, I specifically went with SPEC because they offered a direct bolt on kit. However, it seems that I have the exception (ALWAYS), and will need to shim the damn thing, meaning the trans has to come back out. FFS.

So I got out into the garage and worked on the Lexus. I was able to shim the throw out bearing without fully removing the trans. I was able to use the longer bell housing bolts and that allowed me to slide trans about 3 inches back. I reached into the trans through the inspection window/port and was able to get the shims in. Put it all back together and TA-DA! I can shift the car. However, it isn't perfect yet. I think I need another 1/8 inch shim. I cannot get the car into reverse without it grinding. So I just turn the car off, put it in reverse, and then start the car and do my backing up. LOL.

Long term, the motor is coming out. So when it does, I will address the shimming of the clutch again.

Elmhurst Toyota called and told me that my new 2JZ-GTE short block has arrived, and that they will be shipping it to me ASAP. So it is time to start collecting the rest of the parts to make this thing compete. I don't know when I will start the swap but, it will be sooner than later.

FYI. A 2JZ GTE short block weighs 285 lbs, and should be delivered 4/18 ish. I have been thrashing and beating on the old motor, and the knock or whatever isn't getting worse. So like a mailman, I keep sending it.

I tried very hard to break a Toyota my wife rented by mistake. Did power slides and wide open in first for over 20 minutes and it only smells a little like hot tranny fluid. I was impressed. That was in my younger, more formative years...

My buddy had a 22r in his 86 Yota truck. He would hold the throttle open, it would be making all sorts of racket, floating the valves ect....then he would snap the throttle closed. I swear it would run better after he did that. lol.

Watch out the Q50's. Tuned they can give you a fit.

Lexus Update: The knock isn't getting worse, so I keep continuing to send it! LOL. Actually thinking about putting a 450/525 in the tank, and switching it over to E. Probably be able to turn it up another 5 to 6 psi and make another 100 hp, which would really be fun.

DO NOT OPEN ANY DOOR UNTIL YOUR DEVICES SAYS PROGRAM COMPLETE! IF YOU DO, IT WILL BRICK THE SYSTEM. If it is the first time loading a tune into your vehicle, it will download your stock tune to the device. This can be reinstalled later if you need it. Continue following the prompts. You will have to turn the ignition off and on (DO NOT START THE ENGINE) during this process, relax and follow the prompts. Loading the tune should last 7 to 10 mins. After your device says "program complete", you can start the vehicle. Your vehicle is now tuned. Depending on tuner you may have to data log. Following your tuner's directions on that as well.

Did you purchase a Gearhead Intercooler? The install video is below.

Damn I didn’t know that the doors were supposed to be closed during flash lol

I’m guessing it didn’t brick my car since it was open the entire time? Maybe I just got lucky

Maybe if the doors are open from the start, it keeps the computer on. Good to know.

Funny story about the SHO. I bought a new battery in October. I haven't driven the SHO much this month. I pulled it out of the garage briefly to get some stuff out last week. Nothing to report on start up. My hot water heater decided to **** all over the ground yesterday. So I had to pull everything out again and replace it. Went to start the SHO.....dead. Completely dead. No lights...absolutely nothing. My jumper cables have a built in voltage display and it was reading 3.4 volts. I jumped the SHO and let it run for about 20 minutes. All seemed well.

I went to drive it to dinner and put fuel in it, and my climate controls along with my radio dials didn't work. They were dead, I had an air bag light on, and my advance trac wigged out. I got it home and completely disconnected the battery over night. Went out and reconnected everything, and everything works fine. Back on the battery tender it will go.

STUPID CAR.

our recommendation is to keep the doors closed, radio and HVAC off as they can kick on/off during the tune process and especially with SCT if it notices more than a 0.3v drop during the loading process it will error our. Most get lucky and it happens during the pre-check stage, but if it kills out during loading, you'll be towing to the dealership for a reflash.
