SuperHO is right. You need to cut, at least, 2 1/2 in from the center of the handle to bring the shifter back to its original height. The you put the handle back together with the collar.

A muffler shop could do the work for you easily, both the welding and the cutting.

The hard part will be cutting the inner and lower shifter brackets to fit the aluminum body through the floor pan.

If you cannot do it yourself, pull both brackets out and send them to me. I charge $25.00 to cut them in my milling machine and $10.00 to ship it back.

Cutting th actual floor pan is very easy once you get the brackets back.

Of course, the SHOrty Shifter kit was intended to be installed by do it yourselfers. It is not a dificult project if you have some basic tool.

Okay, gotcha.

I kinda figured it was intended as a DIY thing, and that's fine with me, I'd even say preferred. I just don't have access to a welder, and I live way out in the middle of nowhere, so I don't have as easy access to muffler shop as most do.

I guess I missed the bracket modification part in the first post...

I can clearly see why the inner bracket needs to be cut (kinda goes hand-in-hand with the bigger hole in the floorpan), but I don't see exactly why/where the lower shift box face needs to be modified at all... Seems like it's just a flat face, and the aluminum block would just sit on top of it. Or am I missing something there?

Edit: Never mind, I see it now. You need to make the circular hole bigger in order to accommodate the fact that the pivot point is further away (i.e. higher) than stock. Okay, makes sense.

The shifter box does not have to be modified at all.

The hole on the floor pan needs to be enlaged to fit the aluminum spacer through. There are 2 brackets that hold the shifter box in place. A bracket that sits on top of the floor pan and a matching bracket that sits under the floor pan. All have to be enlaged to accomodate the SHOrty Shifter which is installed through the top.

Aha. Brain fart, sorry. It's been a while since I looked at the assembly, so I forgot about the lower bracket. I was thinking the shifter box itself bolted up to the inner bracket, but you're absolutely right, naturally. Thanks for the clarification.

elarm1,

I guess that your question is directed to me.

I charge $25.00 to mill both brackets and $10.00 for the return shipping. This is just a service I provide to anyone who purchased the SHOrty Shifter. It really is a PITA to cut.

I do not have a welder available any more, so I cannot weld the ball end to the shifter rod. Any shop that has a mig welder could do it for you, and they should not charge more that $20.00. 4 tack welds on it should be all you need to keep it in place.

I have been meaning to get into my shop, but I have been busy with my photography business, chores, etc., and have not been able to get into my machine shop for any length of time.

Next week I will be out of town.

I have 4 SHOrty Shifters in stock right now. I've had several requests for them in the past several months.

Let me know if anybody is still interested.

Joes! Do you have any of the lower extension pieces avaliable? If so, how much? My shifter is spinning inside its base which makes it very hard to control shifting! Thanks, Kevin.

I don't understand. You need the ball end rod that I make for the SHOrty Shifter?

Your shifter is spinning inside its base??? Please explain a bit more.

Yea, I need the ball end! However, after thinking about it if you could just give me the measurment of the ball end i could probably just cut the old one off at the weld. Anyway, the shifter is actually spinning inside its own (origional) base that sits on top of the aluminum foot you provided. Something inside the shifter let go!

There is a plastic round piece attached to the shifter handle inside the shifter base which allows for the movement necessary to shift. It the handle is rotating, I am guessing that the plastic broke.

So you need another ball ent to transfer the SHOrty Shifter kit to another stock shifter?

If you are not able to cut off the welds on your original shifter to remove the ball end, I can make you another one.

The OAL is 4" and the diameter of the ball is 1".

I'm sorry, but I was wondering, how much is this shifter different from the one you had in your first run. I have one of the first ones on my car right now, but I have more cars without short shifter still.
