Guys, I need help badly!! I recently replaced the timing belt (timing belt broke:( don't ask) and water pump according to the instructions on SHOtimes.com, and now I can't get the car to start. The only thing it does is turn over and over and over.... I followed the directions to a T and still nothing. I didn't replace the CPS because it was functioning properly before this incident and saw no need to replace it, but if this is part of my problem, I need to know. Guys I am desperate here!!

ps. Before this incident everything was functioning properly!?!?!

If you replaced the water pump and got coolant on it (more than lickley ya did) then the cps will more than lickley need changed. Try cranking it and seeing if the tach lays dead while cranking. If so double check the cps connections if they are connected good then more than lickley you need a new cps.

I don't think the water was so much a threat to the integrity of the CPS as the broken timing belt was to the electrical wiring to it. Check for spark and rpms indicating on the tach while cranking. If either is absent, the CPS is not providing a signal.

How did you align the timing belt during its installation. You said you followed the directions. What directions did you follow?

check to see that you bolted the intake crossover down properly because the dis grounds through it. Without the dis grounded you will get no spark. Also make sure you did not break any wires when you were putting the timing belt covers back on.

Sdpatt the directions I followed are posted on SHOtimes.com. I did everything that was listed except for the CPS and crank oil seal. I also made absolutely sure I didn't get any coolant on or near the CPS. While cranking, the tach goes to about 300 rpms, but the car doesn't start. I lined the dots on the top cams up with the marks on the back of the timing cover. I also set the little dot on the crank pulley to 0 degrees BTDC as marked on the lower timing cover. There were also some white marks on the belt which I also lined up correspondingly. Today I took the belt off and tried 10 degrees BTDC and still got nothing. I am baffled!!

DO you have spark? pull out a plug and turn over the engine to check. what is the state of the car? did you completely reassemble everything? you have to have the crank pulley on for it to run. Sorry about the silly questions but it's always the simple things that get you.

I know what your problem is. You're lining the cog up to the timing cover, and you're about 40 degrees off on timing. You need to pull the lower timing cover off, and look on the block by the cog, at around 5 o'clock. you'll see alittle tab cast in there. You need to line up the dot on the cog to that tab, and then do the upper pulleys, tighten the belt and you'll be golden.

Have you verified that you have spark yet? Even a wildly timed timing belt can get you some combustion (or backfires).

SHO91MTX you were exactly right!!!! I owe you big time. As soon as I lined the dot up on the crank with the tab at the 5 o'clock position my SHO fired right up, and the timing was DEAD ON!!! It was so exciting to hear this thing run after being down for so long. I was so excited that I ran and knocked on several of my neighbors doors for them to hear it run!!! Dude, you saved me about $350 according to the local mechanic. You guys don't know how valuable this forum is and how blind some of us would be without it!!! This was my first timing belt replacement and I feel invincible now;) j/k I appreciate all of the responses and will also do my best to help anyone else on this forum.

ps. Sorry it took so long for me to get back and tell you guys how the progress was, but when your without your SHO for so long.... well, you all understand. Good luck and happy motoring to you all!!

heh...care to go into a little more detail here?

this could be what's wrong with mine!

I replaced the water pump...no start afterwords.
Replaced the CPS, still not starting.

What do you mean by the intake crossover?
