Shim diameter.

Can anyone tell me the shim diameter, the one I've got out is deformed and it measures from 29.08 to 29.35. And thickness is 2.55mm.
I had a look and it doesn't look as complicated as I was afraid, so I'm trying to fix it. I'll check tomorrow the clearance, probably take some other shims off and stick it there to check the clearance.

Search this forum for exact details, but the V6 engines used the same shims as a Yamaha motorcycle. The bike model has even been quoted in the past (try Phoenix & RonPorter posts). The V8 may be different, but it is a place to start.
If I remember correctly, this is the right hand drive SHO, that has a handbrake between the seats (where it should be).

I spent yesterday hours looking for more info and I do have haynes manual and ford service manual. Just wanted to make sure I get 100% right size, but nowhere is mentioned the v8 shim diameter. I've found out that v8 shims fit v6 but not other way around.

They are 29mm - Makes sure you do not get 29.5mm shims.

I did popped another one out to do some measuring and yes it's 29mm and I need one that's 250 thick. Went to couple of motorcycle stores and no luck. Got couple of places where I'm going to call tomorrow to see if they have in stock. In one shop they wanted to give me 29.5mm shim, but I had my vernier calliper with me, saved me going back later. They all were surprised to hear where it goes and started asking for which motorcycle.

Get one that is close, 2500 or 2550 - put it in, and check the gap to see that the one you have is correct.

Update.
After long wait my shim arrived in post(went missing couple of times, so new one was sent). I did measure it by taking another shim off and the checking clearance. Fitted the shim and all the stuff back together and all good, no noise anymore. Only problem is I have to take intake manifold off again as I think one of the coil packs are not connected properly, it runs on 7 cylinders at the moment. It was taped on first, but I was just lazy when putting it back together.
Everything else is still wrong with it - gearbox, some mysterious electrical issues.

Progress on a SHO can be like a snail shell. It will keep you going in circles till you are hypnotized completely

Haven't used the sho that much any more and nobody wants to buy it here either(must be the gearbox issue), I'm thinking about taking engine out and selling it. Can you advise me if there would be any interest in it. Bear in mind it's in UK. I did found one guy who wants the body to fix he's car so it would work out best I guess.

The cam lobe presses against a shim. The shim sets on top of a bucker. The bucket sits on top of the valve spring.

So one of the cam lobes has a missing shim under it.

You need some special tools to take the shims out.

Checking the clearance is done with a feeler gage.

I did it all with 1 big screwdriver and feeler gauge.
