I have a feeling i gonna need to do rod bearings changed oil and there was well quite a bit of shavings on the oil plug.....do i just need rod bearings and a new oil pan gasket? i dont think they have ever been changed 150k. is there a good place to get them or is sho source the place?
You'll need the bearings themselves, the pan gasket kit, an oil pickup tube gasket (shosource is your friend on this one), oil, filter and assembly ****. Read over the writeup, pay attention to the job, make sure you keep bearings and journals clean and pay attention to torque specs on the rod bolts.
I did the job in about 8 hours, taking my time and doing some other odd jobs on the side. The pan will come off with the front mount and passenger's halfshaft in place, but it will be a juggling act.
But if you have shavings I don't know what you're going to find. How big are the shavings? Are they iron based or aluminum?
Good luck, post if you're stuck, and take some pictures of your bearings for reference.
yea they were iron based im pretty sure they stuck the the magnetic plug also my magnet.... i mean i dont hear any knocking or anything of that nature. i really dont want to take a chance on this. let me go take a good listen.
edit:
im using the word shavings was more like a bunch of particles i know it was more than i would have like to see when i saw the plug i said "O S*** I'm F'd", i should have took a pic im sry....also found it kinda odd when i put the car back down started it up blue smoke was coming out of the exhaust just when i first started it drove around the block went away...then started it again and same thing hasn't came back since though its never done that before kinda odd.
rod bearing material is not magnetic - aluminum and lead mostly.
rings are steel, but excessive ring wear is not typical in these engines.
smoke at start-up only is typically due to oil leaking past valve stem seals and into combustion chamber. the combination of smoke at startup and metal particles suggests that you may have a problem w/ valve guide wear.
