Here is a pic of one of the rod bearings that just came out of the 3.2 pullled from my 95. When we plastigauged them, they appeared to be in spec. Upon installing the new ones, (std size replacement bearings), we found it slightly out of spec. So if these rod bearings were within spec, then this crank has been cut on before, right?

So this is the same motor as your other thread? And I'm assuming just this one is different? How far out of spec?

If the other ones are ok with STD bearings, I don't know why 1 wouldn't be. Like they said in the other thread.. any more than .003 isnt good.

Yes it is. They are all .75mm and a the spec for the ones we checked they were right on the border of .003, the main bearings were all good.

Tom thinks, there was a spun bearing at one point, and they cut the crank journals down to .75mm, which means, the crank cannot be cut on anymore.

The fact that they have the Clevite part number and the .75mm size on them definitely means that the crank has been turned.

You must install .75mm replacement bearings.

The crank fails the fingernail test and can't be cut any more. I'll toss it in the trunk and have my machinist inspect it. Maybe it can be polished and remain in spec with the .75mm undersized bearings but I doubt it. The wear pattern on the bearings was not consistent in any way, except that they all showed uneven wear. Some had copper showing on the edges, some had copper in the middle, one or 2 of them had strips of copper a 1/4 inch wide all the way around. I would not re-use this crank.

LoL.. sounds like it was "wobbling" a little... I told him on the phone I thought that the rest of them being that close to .003 made me think the emery cloth route might make it .0035 or so... and *might be good for 5 miles.. lol

So...even the ATX cranks have KOA stamped on them, huh? Finding an uncut crank shouldn't be too hard since it can come from a 3.0 OR a 3.2...I guess I'd forgotten about that...

Uneven wear leads me to believe that the crank was turned down improperly. If it failed the fingernail test also, I'd pitch it.
