Noise in valve cover!!!!

Hello, I have a 93 3.2 liter. It was running fine until now, I hear a noise coming from the upper part of the motor I think its from the valve covers, can it be a worn cam or rocker arm adjustment? It does not sound like bearings. Please help or im gona sell ot or junk it

Could be timing belt tensioner. There are no rockers and I've never heard of a "worn cam" making noise.

Most likely the timing belt tensioner. Go to Northern Tools or some place like that and pick up a stethoscope and start listening. I thought I had the same problem, noise coming from the rear valve cover, some where around piston #1. I put the probe down close to the tensioner area and the noise was loud and clear. Got a used one from one of the guys here on the site and it has stopped.

is it a grinding or a tapping sound? you need to be specific if you expect us to diagnose your car over the internet.

It could also be one or both of the timing chain tensioners in the head failing, depending on where the noise is.

I would say either the timing tensioner or the valves need to be adjusted.

If it is your timing belt tensioner I modify blown tensioner's to work as manual tensioner's instead of the stock hydrolic one's that tend to fail. PM me if you are interested.

My guess is timing belt tensioner, but it all depends on how harsh the noise is and where it seems like it is coming from. Run the car with the upper timing cover removed or just take it off and check for timing belt slack.

It is more like a tapping noise. I never heard rockers sound like that though.

You do realize that this is an overhead cam engine, and thus has no rockers, right?

That's right. I was thinking of the retro-encabulator. It's the universal one that honeywell made for everyones benefit.

Yeah, the panametric reciprocation dingle-arm in those reduces the sinusoidal depleneration of the malleable logarithmic casing a lot more effectively, IMO.

It's a dual over head cam motor. If it is more of a tapping then the valves might need to be adjusted unless one has been ejected.

If it is coming from the driver side of the motor then the chain tensioner is bad.
