I would think for someone going turbo this would be a better option. People have put the mtx tranny's from the 3.0/3.2's on the 3.4's and worked so there must be a way to get the mazda 6 trannys to work on the 3.0/3.2 The gears for those trannys would be much much cheaper to do than with the mtx IV

Why would it be a better option? It'll probably still break, the gear ratios may not be suited to this engine, and finding replacements would be more expensive.

MTXs are fine for what they were designed for - a 220hp Taurus. Not to beat the ever-loving shit out of doing burnouts and launching the car like it's actually fast.

Now don't you think if this was a simple swap it wouldn't already of been found, or did you not think to SEARCH for INFORMATION on the subject before you made this simple boy post?

I geuss u r not reed so smrt.

It cost money to make a transmission from another car work. It cost more than most of the memebers' here cars are worth. Money that the people that can afford to do it don't want to and the pipe dreamers such as yourself don't have to invest.

Just sayin'

No, Sean. Scott still has his. Mine's different. :)

Yep. It's been Scott's daily driver for near four years now.

I'll finish the rest of the 20007 SHO Convention album one of these days, but here's a few pics of the car:

Keep in mind that both of the original V8 MTX cars were '96 MG cars. I thought I had pics of when Ryan ran Scott at the strip, but I don't :frown:

Won't work with the v6, would take more time/money/fabrication than you'd care to mate it to the v8.

I S'pose all of that is relative...

I'd do it all over again. Love the tranny love the way the car drives for an old 96 SHO... Love that I can gets lots of options for clutches. The custom axles are indeed something I am keeping an eye on, But versus the ancient old MTX-IV I'd much rather have the A65M-R that I have installed.

Oh by the way - never say "Won't work" I cannot speak with any real authority on feasibility but strong definitive statements like that are pure arrogant. Sure it may not be anywhere near practical, or affordable in your eyes (maybe even mine) but it is just like never say never.

Personally while the MTX-IV is far from a shinign star, it is probably cheaper to build one up as best you can with what parts are still available rather than re-invent the wheel and do something else. However - don't let my thoughts stop you from doing something you want to do.

Oh and for clarity the Mazda 6s MTX is a 5 speed. The 6 speed FWD tranny that is a Duratec pattern match is over in Europe on the modeo's from the early 2000's, I believe there are even some that are AWD capable.

In Ryan's defense they had to have some magic clutch cocktail with a cut down disc to match the flywheel which was off of a Topaz or something like that. I believe all of that is fixed up now for he MTX-IV converted V8's but I don't know what all it entailed - probably a flywheel change or something.

In order to launch these V8 pigs with a MTX you really have to spool up the motor and then torture the clutch on the launch. That was about a 4K launch that I had in that run against Ryan. That was a Clutchmasters Stage II (Mazda 6). Current clutch is now a Southbend stage 2, I think it actually hold a bit better even.

Well, you got the information you need, and from someone who has done it and lived with it for four years. And, in case you couldn't figure it out, could tell you how to do it. I guess if that isn't good enough for you, I guess your mommy still wipes your ass for you, eh??

Oh, I know, you are someone who wants a 12-second V8 SHO but only has $500 to spend, and you can't change your own oil........

damn it was a simple question and convo idk y people have to such smart ***** damn i guess i wont be askin anybody shit anymore all it ever is is smart ass remarks

Now I know why I recognize your username.... Your the same guy that keeps blowing the EEC fuse on your Gen 3, and decided with all your wisdom to jump the fuse with a wire, then it started blowing the 40A EEC underhood which you continue to replace???

And you have yet to investigate the rear head wiring loom which is suggested as a likely source of a short to ground for the coil harnesses that notoriously melts to the nicely grounded valve cover instead you keep plugging in fuses?

Not to pile on but if you can't follow that sound advice for that problem, I want my hundreds of keystrokes back in this and my previous posts in this thread. We try to say all this crap to make people smarter, but I think some people are just plain out of real estate for such "improvements"... And if you really are **** bent on BBQ'ing your Gen 3 like you are trying then maybe you should sell it to someone who has a slight concern for their safety.

So how does the v-8 mtx keep up with the gen 2? And since no one said it, or at least i think no one has said it. IS it possible to put a gen 4 sho engine in a gen 2 or 3?

So how does the v-8 mtx keep up with the gen 2?

I can only speak for James', because that's the only one I've driven/raced. My 92 3.2 MTX was slightly faster than the V8 MTX. By slightly faster I mean, Kirk was in front of me on a long stretch of deserted, properly designated "test road". We both punched it from a 3rd gear roll, and I could have stuffed my front bumper up his ass if I wanted to.

However, tuning had not been sorted out on the V8 yet. This was summer of 09, when the car was freshly redone.

I had the opportunity to spend 1200 or something miles in it when James bought it from Kirk. Can't say anything about a Gen 2, but I can say with no uncertainty that it pounded the ever loving shit out of a V8 ATX. The ATX didn't stand a chance.

And since no one said it, or at least i think no one has said it. IS it possible to put a gen 4 sho engine in a gen 2 or 3?

Anything's possible, given enough time, money, patience, and talent. I only have two of those, so I'm not going to attempt it...
