Look up Cory Cunningham on the Ford Flex FB group and he can sell you one of his kits. It’s an awesome upgrade, fairly easy to swap out and gives you apple car play. I think it's under $700 for everything. It's not difficult to install.
I will look him up. Thanks for the info!!

~$1500 is insane. Most likely found a kit on a retail site. If you do research on the DIY, you can piece the parts together and there are how-to videos on YouTube. Other then a custom shop, I do not know anyone that would do the install. Especially if you don't use a kit. At $1500, it is not worth it. There is no telling how much longer there will be things like map updates because Sync 4 is out. If you are not going to piece the kit together. I would abandon Sync all together. I would look into a Maestro RR2 and a compatible radio of your choice. A custom stereo shop would be well versed in the Maestro RR2.
I searched on this site for the upgrades and followed some links that got me to that price. They were OEM. I will look in Maestro RR2. I did check for an update for Sync 2 and below is what I have and what I can upgrade to. Is it worth me doing the update to 3.10?

OEM new prices may be that high. I would advise sourcing the screen and APIM through Car-Part. Try to get them together. I was able to get a low mileage 2019 for $150 shipped. It came out of a SHO with the same options as mine so I did not even have to program. The rest of the parts, I would get through Amazon.
An update will be very similar to what you have. It may solve some bugs or add new features but the layout will be the same. If you don't like the cluttered look of Sync 2, you won't change that with an update.

OK that answers my question about taking the time to do the update. If it doesn’t change the user interface at all, then I won’t bother. cluttered is a good word for that interface. Combined with the screen, being rather small and tilted backwards, makes me just use the steering wheel controls more. Not a big deal. I think I’ll just get a good dash mount for my iPhone and use it plugged in to the USB port in the armrest compartment. Great info though about going to sync3 if I ever decide to go that route. is the screen the same material as the Sync2 screen? compared to my screen in my Hyundai you have to press a bit on the Sync2 screen I found for the button push to register. another thing I found kind of odd: not sure what they were thinking by putting those interfaces in the armrest compartment. I get it from an aesthetic point of view but you wind up having wires hanging out of there anyway unless I’m missing something?

I honestly have had Sync 3 for a couple years and rarely use the screen. About the only thing I use it for is turning the seat air/heat on. Everything else, I do from a physical button, Android Auto, the steering wheel, voice, or once after a battery disconnect. I cannot honestly compare the 2 screens. It does not feel like a cellphone screen.

Check out ProClip USA. They have custom mounts for our cars. Personally, I use the Angled Dash Mount. It puts the phone below the trunk button. It is out of my way since Android Auto puts the map on my car screen and I use voice control. They also have a Left Dash and Center Dash mount. Both are in front of a vent.

I am not a fan of the USB in the center console either. It is a tight bend but, you can pull the "leather" trim off and tuck the wire up to your mount if you decide to go that route. I also bought a 90* USB so that it does not stick out into the center console as much.

Jumping back to the original question, if you want to get a better feel for an appropriate oil change interval for your engine, driving habits, and oil of choice, you could go with a 3k interval for one full cycle, then send a sample of the oil to Blackstone Labs for a Used Oil Analysis. They will analyze the oil and based on how long that oil has been in the engine and remaining additives/contaminants, provide a suggestion on how long you could likely run the oil under the same conditions. They can also identify materials in the oil that may be indicative of bearing condition to help you budget for engine work in your future.

I've not used the service personally, but know people who have and who swear by it. Unlike many services, I haven't come across anyone with supporting evidence that it's a scam.

OK if the screen isn’t any better, then I probably won’t bother with it. Yes, I’m thinking about getting the pro clip. The angled one that goes under the trunk release button, which is oddly placed probably won’t be as much anyway.

This is great information. Thanks I didn’t know a service like that existed.

Every 5k miles with Royal Purple. Did the waterpump and chain and zero sludge. When I posted on the repair, a member noticed that the aluminum parts had a light yellow tint to them, possibly varnish, but Blackstone oil reports have always been excellent. He has similar miles and oil change habits, but uses Mobil 1. He posted pics of his repair and had no yellowish tint at all. Both quality synthetic oils, but for reasons unknown, visually his looked cleaner. These were on 100k + mile vehicles, I've owned mine since 35k and used nothing but Royal Purple. Other than the waterpump giving up the ghost at 125k, I've had zero engine issues.

nobody i know. and we have actually visited with the good folks at blackstone. it's a small operation.

you do have to understand the analysis you are getting for 30$. focus on the basic results - wear & tear - and you will get what you need. modern oils are chemically complex and expecting this type of analysis to divulge deep dark secrets is just too much.

if you need to have the tests rerun, sometimes they will have enough sample left over to do so. ask beforehand just so you know the process.

Thanks for the info. I recently was pricing out that coversion and just the parts that I found were ~$1500. I wouldn't do the install so that additional $$$ Does the new screen you get for Sync3 as mushy as the one for Sync2? My DD is a 2024 Hyundai Kona and that screen feels like an iPhone screen which is quite nice.

Thanks for this. I watched that and it does seem pretty simple. The link to the site though for the parts is not working. How much does that kit cost?

The owner of that site, Jason, passed away. Look up Cory Cunnigham on FB. He sells the entire kit for something like $700, I think.

unfortunately no easy way, cant even enable it with forscan. the only way Ive seen adding a permanent gauge is to drill and tap the area right next to the low pressure switch on the engine block and add a mechanical gauge. I had to check my pressure with a gauge in place of the low pressure switch, once with used oil cold, used oil hot, fresh oil cold, fresh oil hot, fresh oil with lucas cold, fresh oil with lucas hot, up down up down up down, thankfully a friend had a lift and didnt mind the mess. there are some vital stats I wish I could monitor on the fly, boost, oil pressure, tempuratures for the drivetrain, forscan will read some but not all, from what I understand things like boost and oil pressure are not monitored by the car in any capacity, just a trigger switch that lets you know the oil pressure is below a threshold, I believe it was 7psi
I have an app, OBDLink on my iphone that will monitor boost, the gauge goes to 15 PSI. I've pegged it a few times.

Hey everyone. My recently acquired 2015 PP SHO will not be a daily driver. More like twice a week or so. I won't be racing or leadfooting (well maybe a little of the later) and use it in both highway and city traffic. I am in the Philadelphia, PA area so no real extreme climate. I will be hitting the 3 month mark more often than the 3000 mile mark so does the old 3 months/3000 miles oil change rule still apply?

Thanks for any info!
I wouldn't so much look at time. I would look at mileage vs fuel dilution esp in a TGDI engine. I would get a Blackstone or Speed analysis at 3k miles and see what they say about fuel dilution. If the dilution is high, change the oil. If it is low/acceptable move onto the 4,000 to 5,000 mile range. I would not go past 5,000 miles under any circumstances. Oil is cheap insurance.

Change every 5K with a full synthetic, on the 5s and 0s (zeros) of your odometer……this way you no longer need to worry about the exact miles…..when a 5 or a zero is near, change your oil. If you go over a bit, say 85,600 miles, change next at 90,000 miles, not 90,600, who wants to keep track of all that?!?!?! Make it simple and easy. :)
