I hate this damn thing..

Ive been trying to post here for a while but the aproval thing took awhile..

Sorry, anyways, i found the crank sensor was bad cuz the crank seal leaked oil onto it. So i decided to replace it and in the process of removing ther sensor... what happened?? One of the damn screws broke off.. So, my current plan is to lower the whole engine and try to drill it out and basicly start over with a new screw. Anyone else have any better ideas??

Gad to be here finaly, my sho has been through a bit and some help with it now and then would make me happy :thumb:

What i do in my job when a screw breaks is weld on to of the broken screw and use a pair of vise-grips and twist it out. I never liked drill and tapping to much time. Try not to weld it to the block if you try it!

The oil pump is aluminum, and the screw is steel, and I wouldn't recommend welding down there...

Is the screw broken off flush, or is there a stub sticking out?

I know this sounds stupid but i had the similar thing happen to me and i took a tiny nail and a dab of jbweld and put it on there and taped it in place overnight as such where it wouldnt move. The next morning the jbweld had dried and i slowly turned the nail and she came right out. Id be for trying soemthing like that with some epoxy or superglue before you start lowering the subframe. Its a worth a shot anyway. I may have just gotten lucky though.

i found some Craftsman ez-out type things at Sears...I think they would take it out since the screw isn't that big, or in tight.

Ok, are you actually trying to remove the oil pump???

If so, well it's too late now, you're going to have to remove the oil pan in order to remove the pick-up tube, and get a couple gasket sets in order to reinstall everything.

I know it had gaskets behind it, im not sure if it is the oil pump... I do know there is a gasket behind it, is there anyplace with a beakdown of the motor so i know what im looking at? I thought this would have been faster than lowering the motor but i think im about to regret it...

Get a 90 degree drill and go to town, this way you won't have to drop the engine. Same thing happened to me. I started a hole and used a small easy out.

Here is a picture of an oil pump:

If this is what you've been trying to remove, then as I mentioned you've opened the barn door, and now you're going to have to remove the y-pipe, oil pan, and pick up tube, and replace all the related gaskets. Naturally you'll be able to extract the broken screw much easier once it's out, but it's not the preferred method as I think you've figured out.

Search around the forums for some of the various rod bearing replacement guides people have written, as they will cover most of what you'll need short of replacing the oil pump gaskets and getting it reinstalled properly. For that it would be best to have a Helms manual handy, or perhaps someone could scan those pages from the manual and post them for you.

All i see is a red X, can you save the picture to your computer and upload it? On imageshack.us it is free, you cant see it linked from e-bay, thanks though
