I give you a :thumb: on clear taillight idea. They would still need the fluting in them due to the style so your choice of bulb would work out, unless they are cheesy Chinese things. Though, if you were able to get a set of clear, fluted lenses to be retrofitted on to a set of backings, for the love of God, get a good LED set up. I personally would stare at the taillights for hours with a good sense of accomplishment if I had the LEDs + Clear, even longer than when I refinished the kitchen table.

Wanna make some good looking tailights?

Tint them.
Been there, done that:

Don't worry, I wont force you to get any of my taillights.

I was also thinking about those LEDs. I knew there was someone doing real LED taillights (named fzoo, I think?) instead of just the cheezy ones I quickly googled.

By "fluted", you mean the surface deviations on the inside of the lens which refracts the light, right? Because that's exactly what I intended to keep. The idea is to make an exact replica of the OEM lenses, just without the red pigment.

Excidere, if you DID get a vacuum thingamajiggie, well, that would be just awesome.

By fluting yes I meant the inner deviations used to focus the light....Hey on the other hand, couldn't you possibly rig up one of those FoodSaver vacuum pumps to get a good molding for the lights? I saw the word "thingamajiggie" and just remembered those commercials for one. Or maybe a big fish-tank air pump. Just use the air-inlet port as your air-sucking-out port.

The lense I was planning on making was a complete replica of the stock lens, fluting and everything. Only in clear plastic.

Now for the vacuum/pressure, I have an industrial vacuum pump at work that would work really well, just not a tank. On the site though they use pressure for the forming, and vacuum to form the mold. So I think both would be needed. Pressure is easy though.

You can get some made. You can either make the mold yourself, which might be kind of difficult with the larger taillight lenses, but it's possible. A friend of mine was looking in to having a shop make some for him (without the fluting), but the molds would be expensive. If you wanted to make your own and take the fluting out (Personally, I think they would look better with the fluting, otherwise it would be too clear) you could cast the mold with the clay that that alumilite site uses, and just smooth them out afterwards, and then will it with the clear resin.

So yeah, it's possible, and if you make your own shouldn't be too expensive to make the lenses. I'd actually like to see how they would look.

Hmmm..... maybe I'll make a set if I ever get ambitious...

Please look into a tank. I'm very much interested in pursuing this. It seems like more than just you and I might be interested, so we might be able to arrange a group buy if you are able to procure said vacuum tank.

Clear/white tails would only look good on a white car! I hate those Lexus RX tails! I would not buy one just because of them! I would wear a set of clear/whits tails on my white 95, I am working on replacing the third brake light red lens with a white one.

that would bring the cost of the molds well over 1000 as just to make the molds for the stock lenses was 1000. I can send you the contact info for alumilite as they are right down the street from me. I have another meeting with them next friday for some other lenses i am having made.

I would like a set of totally clear(no red!) on mine, but thats only because mines white. I dont think many other colored cars would look right with them. And... where are you people getting those cool stock looking LED tailights???

Just because something is different, doesn't mean it's good LOL...everyone always wants what they can't have I guess...

I had a buddy who worked for VW Motorsport in Germany about 10 years ago. When he came over here and we stopped by a few shops in the area, he was always stunned that everyone was installing the "euro" dual round headlight/grill setups...he looks at me and says, "Over in Turkey and germany guys would **** for the rectangle lights we had LOL.

I just don't dig the clears, my "old fart" opinion (I'm 33)...LEDs? I don't see the benefit....

LEDs in the tails light up much faster than incandescents, giving much better reaction time to those behind you. They also run much less current, which generates much less heat, and they last orders of magnitude longer. How many spoiler LED bulbs have gone out on you? the total is zero for me, and that's with 3 14-year old cars. I don't even want to think about how many times I've had to replace those stupid tail light bulbs...

IMHO, you're splitting hairs. Some 17 year old kid eating a burger while texting on his blackberry will not gain a ton in the micro-second you gain LOL. Again, to each their own.

Im with this... guy. I think its cool they use next to no power, and they light up instantly. But, i have had my led spoiler light go out, and its a PITA. But i think that was mostly just ford, and leds where experimental back than??(kinda newer to them, didnt really have a BEST ideas on how to wire them and design?) Ok ...i just made absolutely no sense. The
