wondering if anyone out there has changed rod bearings in an atx. It looks like a tight fit to get the oil pan out without removing the y-pipe. any advice would help because my bolts in the exhaust maifold to y-pipe are going to snap and I don't have a tourch pb blaster did not work either.

I believe you do have to remove the y-pipe. Torches are quite inexpensive at most chain stores, ~$30. MAPP gas will help burn a little hotter also.

Definitely need to remove the y-pipe and the starter to drop the pan.

You probably are going to have more than your share of fun getting the two pan nuts off the studs closest to the transmission. More importantly, getting them back on is even tougher. It is almost a blind removal and installation. I used a couple extensions and a knuckle/wobble adapter on my socket.

I took the exhaust off to do the oil pan gasket. The bolts on the pan were fine, but I had the exhaust bolts cut off from the Y-pipe...it went down hill from there. I should have done the rod bearings then, but they will have to wait...

How did you get the oilpan off without removing the Y-pipe? That would save me a huge hassle.

Thanks,
Pillarian
