93 ATX i had the cps seal done and after about 100 miles of driving i got a knocking noise. Seems to go away when rpms are high and stays throughout idle. Had the mech steth on it today. Seems to be coming from (looking at engine from front) passenger side corner of engine towards middle without scope and with scope seems to be coming from front of engine on passenger side. I am not tooo mech inclined. I am putting it in for inspection tmmrw and will have my mech look at it but he is older now and wont dig dip into her. Very reliable man though. I sent area91 a pm as he did my 60k years back and he knows his SHOit. Not to many mechs around here do. But before i hear back from him just wanted any input available and to make sure my course of action is correct after reading some previous posts.

1st Take of acc belts, run car see if noise is still there.
2nd Take timing cover off check belts and tensioner.
3rd Jump off a bridge!!!!

I video would help if you could upload one. It could be your rod bearings. Have you seen a red oil light on your dash illuminate at all? Have they ever been replaced?

I would not drive it much until the noise is figured out. It could be minimal or it could be something like rod bearings which are a big job.

On the other hand, I might be willing to bet it is your timing belt slapping the timing cover which means your timing belt tensioner is toast. Take off the upper timing cover and check to see how much slop there is in the timing belt between the two cams by pressing down with your finger. There should be some (not much) slack but if it is excessive you will know. If you find out that is your issue contact me via PM and I can convert your broken tensioner to be a manual one which is adjustable and it will never fail.

ATX tensioners do have a tendency to fail. The area you described points to that. Without listening or looking at the car, it's hard to tell though. Rod bearings are more prone go to on MTX cars since the driver has the ability to lug the motor more. Cam chain tensioners can also make noise, but that would be on the opposite side from where you describe.

You have Brian right there, so whatever it is, you'll have no worries as he'll fix it.

Oil light has not come on. Oil is clean. She runs good actually pretty dam good with new tranny. No loss of power. Does not seem to effect drivability at all. Seems to be coming from acc timing belt area and transferring into engine. If it is a rod can this be fixed? Original rods. Car has 126,@@@ miles. God I hate to get rid of her. She was my first. Will try to post vid.

It most likely not rod bearings but I would eventually do them sometime in the future.

My money is on the timing belt tensioner still. The tensioner looses hydraulic pressure and the fluid leaks out. It is a typical problem with the ATXs'.

Shosource rebuilds the tensioners now. I had the same noise that came from mine. I just happen to find a member on here that had a good one. Got another one out of a wreaking yard and thinking of sending it in to have rebuilt. As I own two SHO's. Or do like some members and make it a manual one

What does a SHOSource fuel pump have to do with this guy's knocking noise? Fuel pumps can be had easily from multiple other outlets for as good, if not cheaper, price. Is this an advertisement "crap on" thread?

www.northeastsho.com, has been selling these for years, the only issue I have seen with others trying to rebuild them is in their parts list they are missing the wear item inside the tentioner.

We charge less for the core and offer lifetime replacement..

Sorry about that. I guess I hit the wrong key on the board. Trying give him the page on Shosource for the tensioner

No prob. Sorry...angry drunken post moment. A thread of mine got derailed previously by an advertisement, so I was a little heated about it still.

I have 94 taurus sho MTX with 251000 on the clock, I have changed the timing belt and I am currently experiencing the same symptoms you have described in your post (after driving 500 miles I hear something knocking in the engine). I was wondering if you were able to figure out what actually was the problem with your car?
Thanks
