Okay here's a question for all you gear heads that are rebuilding Engines. What can I do when rebuilding an engine to get more horsepower out of it? the guy at one shop can shave the heads or something for more compression? can you guys give me some ideas so what he can do..

Add more turbos, and a 200 shot, 10s here we come!

Rods/pistons, ARP headstuds, crank, and you could sleeve it if you wanted it to be bullet proof.

What about internals crankshaft, Pistons can any of those be modified or changed out? The guy is going to build me a motor might as well see if I can get some horsepower out of it
You can build it to handle more power for sure. Manley rotating assembly and raptor crank

I only owned a factory s/c vehicle that I did little to modify. I'm not sure if higher c:r is better or not for engine power vs stock c:r if you are fighting preignition. Tuning may make this doable but I'm just asking for those that are fighting with fuel octane and knock if this is better or not in this setup.

We are better off dropping the compression to 9.0 to prevent pre-ignition which should mean more boost.

The 2017 Ford GT has a compression of 9.0:1 and pumps out 647 at 6250rpm and 550 at 5900rpm.

I finally got around to messing with forscan and did the following mods:
Remove double honk
Awd Guage
Fixed hylerflash
Changed screen saver
Changed # of signals from 3 to 5

If yall have any other suggestions of useful mods please let me know so I can try them out.

I don't know THIS motor...but generally, on a turbo motor, you want lower compression, in order to maximize boost without getting knock...unless you run race gas.

This usually means using dished pistons.

That's about all I have to offer. Primary ways to increase power are, higher rpm, higher displacement (bigger turbos), or higher compression.

That's my general impression from watching alot of turbo/sc builds (especially taking n/a motors to forced induction). But even some of those have been able to use slightly higher c:r with evolution of tuning and fuels. I just wasn't sure of going higher, as the current c:r seems already pushing the higher range 10 or 10.5: 1. I thought I saw a 20 Mustang with 9.5.

Well, different cams and cranks are designed for motors that spin to different rpms.

Stock, the 3.5 spins to 6500. Of we installed a cam that built power to 7500 rpm, and managed to keep from floating valves or throwing rods or walking cranks, you would see between 50-100 hp increase, depending on boost...with minimal increase to torque.

I assume using the raptor crank is due to strength. Generally, you swap out the rotating assembly when you stroke a motor, which increases displacement.

Raptor engine uses similar parts in their turbo engine set ups. There are differences with rwd vs fwd designs but they may have swappable engine parts. Waiting to see how the raptor crank works out.

The “raptor” crank is spec’d the same just a metallurgical difference. Made stronger for use in the latest 3.5 ecoboost **. Which is put in Raptors. People are using it when building up the bottom end, forged rods, pistons, exc, just as a it’s supposed to be better so why not.

Okay got that so another thing I'm confused about when I'm looking for an engine they keeps saying that my engine is a long block but when I was watching the YouTube he mentioned he had a short block was there a difference between 2012 and 2013? Because when I look up engine block to buy it says 2011 to 2019 same block

When buying an engine a short block is the bottom end, no heads. Long block is complete with heads.

Long block will typically be complete minus intake manifold and other components like alt, water pump, exhaust manifolds, and so on.
