Is this legit? A local Craigslist ad has this: performance chip for ford taurus SHO
came out of my 95
this chips deletes rev limiter and allows top speed of 154 mph

If so, does it matter if the car is auto or manual? The guy wants $100 for it. My gut says it will not change anything on a stock car.

Yes, a chip can remove the rev limiter. How fast your car will go will depend on weather/wind, power your car is making and coefficient of drag. 154 is just a number he pulled out of his butt.

Its prolly a Hypertech chip. All it does it remove the rev limiter, and yes, it will matter weather its for an ATX or MTX. It is prolly PCM specific.

to answer the op's question, yes it matters if the car is atx or mtx. you need to match the chip to the pcm code.
