Why does my key only work on the drivers door and ignition?

My SHO is my second 3rd gen Taurus. First was a 99 Duratec. Both cars the keys only work in the drivers door and the ignition. Neither the key worked in the passenger door or the trunk.

Not that its a big issue, just didnt know why. Maybe the lock cylinders are just frozen from not being used?

The trunks are typically a separate key, unless it's a wagon or fleet vehicle. FWIW, the doors may have been replaced and the key cylinders not changed out. I replaced the passenger door on my '93 without changing the lock, I have a remote and keyless entry so I hardly even need the lock on the drivers door.

I'm pretty sure that the ignition key on the Gen 3's are supposed to open the trunk.

Mine does not open the drivers door but the passenger door. Try some powdered graphite on the key and try that.

To get in a pun, the key is in the post just above. :)

The key will open the driver and passenger doors and the trunk if the locks are original and working properly. For a year or so, I think around 2002, the key stopped opening the passenger door and then a year later the trunk. Complete cleaning and lubrication of the locks and the key solved it and it again opened them all. If you keep up with that after you get it going, it will continue to do so. And while at it, clean and lub the antenna and it will keep working just fine too. :)

My G2, the key only works on the driver and ignition, but not the passenger, and I have a seperate one for the trunk. But I don't have a keyhole on the trunk :).
