I have heard talk of this is it really fact or fiction? Or can it be really doable?

Any feedback would be interesting from you guys who know.

Thanks

the 6 speed from the mazda 6 and the mtx4 from the sho's can both be made to fit.

not going to be cheap doing it though

It's a 5 speed from the V6 powered Mazda 6's. Tranny model is the A65M-R. TRANNY ITSELF CAN BE HAD FOR NEXT TO DIRT ($500 OR so).

5 Bellhousing bolts line right up - some work is require for the other 3 or 4...

The MTX IV fits underhood a bit more gracefully but I am told NONE of the bellhousing bolts line up, so a steel adapter is required.

Bolt-up Advantage A65M-R
Underhood fitment advantage MTX IV
Being able to service the tranny for a few years HUGE advantage A65M-R

PS: That is me in the youtube link....

The MTX-75 from the Contours will also fit with a new input shaft.

Input shaft isn't a problem for fitting the MTX-75, but there are a bunch of other issues (not problems per se) that caused me to RUN (not walk) away from the MTX-75 install I was attempting, I already owned the tranny and a Torsen LSD and sold both pieces at a loss to get away from it....

I'd go for the MTX IV over the MTX-75, and I wouldn't go for the MTX IV over my Mazda combo... At least if I shred my tranny it is new stuff and parts and spare trannys abound. Wish that were the case for the MTX IV.

nice man doesn't look much faster then the auto car?

About .5 seconds in the quarter is what you can expect to gain by getting the extra gear, and shedding 100 pounds or so from the car. I didn't do this for performance, I did it because the ATX is too boring - and crappy...

I was just speaking based on what a SHO guy out here has said based on his swap, (that's being done by a shop) It's possible they made it up to pad the bill... the last time I saw the car it was waiting for axles, and axles were waiting for funding. He did notch the drivers side inner fender though.

Assuming that is the individual Going FI (Turbo) I have spoken to him a few times to consolidate what we know. He never mentioned any input shaft problems because I suspect that would be a weak excuse by someone to indeed run up the bill..

What about dowl pins on the Mazda trans? Are you just using the bolts to align the trans or did the alignment pins line up?

I believe his adapter plate is configured so the dowels on the tranny line up to one side of the plate, and the dowels that normally would go between the block and the stock tranny line up on the other side.

If I decide to keep my car i'm going to do this setup, beef the trans (if possible) and try a twin turbo setup. I figure if i'm going to keep the car i'm going to go all out. got to take it one step at a time though.

Nevermind, I found and read the build up forum. How is it been holding up so far?

Approaching 35 K as my DD. Only mechanical problem was the Axle weld that broke 300 miles after teh swap - rest has been gravy, car never gets pampered. and the 16 YO daughter now prefers it over the 99 ATX. I would like to think it gets babied when she is driving but common sense of a teenage driver strongly suggests otherwise...

Thanks for putting up the thread on this. I can't look at the pics cuz i'm at work, but i'm going to study them tonight when I get home. Once my bike sells i'm going to have about $1,500 that I can spend so i'm going to start getting parts then. Do you have any of the specs for the axles and spacer plate? I can have it made here in town (I'm sure of the plate but the axles are ???), so I only need the specs for it. Did you say that you used a Contour pedal and clutch set? I really need to dig into those pics tonight.
