Alright guys n like the 3 gals floating around here, I spent a good portion of the night searching here and TCCA forums and found enough info to get me started. But I am still lacking some info on this swap, First the break down of what has happened so far: The first ACM I replaced was from a sync 1 Fusion, it worked, but it had some glitches (popping, random audio loss, and no sync voice) well it died so I did more research and found that it should have worked but may have needed programming. I went to the pick n pull in search of another ACM and stumbled on a sync 3 system from a 2017 Fusion, Based on what I have been seeing the fusion ACM will work along with explorer, flex, and a few Lincolns. However, some of my initial research suggested that the ACM MUST come from a taurus with the Sony option (true or false). I managed to get the guy covering the cashier for lunch that was jonesing for a smoke break so I got 2 ACMs, the screen with APIM, The USB Hub, A PI trunk insert, and another shift **** for $100, not as good as my $3 ACM from the other junk yard but Ill take it for sync 3. I managed to drop the USB hub and my favorite ratchet along the way so for now I am without the usb hub and GPS antenna, but from what I read that will just cause annoying pop up messages and make updating the system not possible so I planned to add it later.
When I got home I ran the as-built data for my car, the fusion I sourced it all from, and a 2016 SHO for sale in Texas that had the Sony option and sync 3. My car came with a breakdown of modules I could individually download but the other 2 came in a full list without a breakdown. So, I ran them all through the suggested decoder and got a side by side by side comparison of all the different codes. After I updated my Forscan License I started changing my codes digit by digit by the spreadsheet, but it didn't work. Some things changed, others stayed the same and were non functional, but most importantly, I enabled the Sony DSP and I still have no sound. So I just started entering the 2016 SHOs APIM codes letter for letter address by address and by the time I finished with the APIM, I had a totally different screen, functional clock, functional compass, and functional HVAC controls...Then the car battery died. But I still had no audio.
After I figure out the audio problem and order the needed equipment, I should be in sync 3 for around $125. Changing the as built data was nerve racking but it seems to be working so far and has given me a new confidence in doing this kind of work.
I plan on throwing the ACM codes from the 16 into the new ACM from the fusion but I'm confused, I thought I would have some sign of life by now. The APIM is working great, and the ACM has power because I can talk to it. This isn't a couple bolts as those of you that have done it know, its a bit of a process to get to the ACM, is it somehow already dead? or does programming matter that much? Is it the lack of an update? or is there another module for the Sony system that I potentially fried with the last ACM? The car is on the toaster while I'm at work so I plan on finishing the ACM programming tonight and make a few tweaks while I'm at it. Any advice from this point is appreciated, since I couldn't get a module break down from fords as built site, I cant just upload as built files to the modules and have to do it manually, if I am missing something let me know, a lot of the info I found leaves it at "upload the as built from a car with sync 3".
Oh, and for those that have followed my misfortune over the last year, the car is driving again with no radio and a cat below efficiency code, Working on a fix for the cats but I need my tunes, quiet is a breeding ground for bad ideas. and the truck I just dumped a bunch of money into is having issues now too so the SHO needs to pay rent.
