what is the down side to running a catless Y-pipe?

as it says above,, I'm thinking about cutting out the cats, or just buying a catless Y-pipe. is there any down falls to this? I live in KS I we don't have any emmisions testing here.

Thanks in advance!

Its sounds bad, and wont pass emissions. Some people say there is a less low end TQ with a cat less than a high flow catted pipe. I can't say I have noticed any loss in low end myself.

Out in front!
I won't say it sounds bad but it is alot louder! I haven't noticed any power loss either.

I think my exausts note is more rapsy and it's loud. I can hear my car running in the parking when I'm almost wherever in my house.

You will get some nasty smelling stuff coming out of the pipes, especially at idle. This is no big deal if the car is always outside. But if you run it at all in an enclosed area like a garage, it may stink things up pretty good.

When you guys say it gets louder is this on the inside also? I don't mind if it’s noticeably louder on the outside, but I'm not looking for any more noise to resonate inside the car

I LOVE catless!!! Of course, I am also one of the few on here that likes the "raspy" sound of the SHO. NO other car sounds quite like it.:thumb:

You can still pass emissions in just about anywhere but, California. We've passed on catless y-pipes on several occasions. Pat's white SC SHO doesn't have cats (gutted) and it still passes.

If you run a gutted Y-Pipe does it matter if you utilize the stock or not? I realize the stock has the poor design with the 90 degree bend. But if it is gutted would that really matter all that much as you just substantially reduced the back pressure anyway.

What do you guys think?

I am thinking I might just cut out the 90 degree bend on my stock pipe and weld in a piece. I work for a fab shop so its no biggy plus it would save me a ton of dough. That is really only only crappy part about the stock y-pipe right?

Thanks,
