JT, I don't know about others or your computer, but the second pic didn't come through on mine it just has the red X.

Ahh....it's on there now. Nevermind. Looks pretty sweet. What was the main thing you typed on ebay to get this part?

okay...so ram air is a myth. But I'm wondering if there isn't just a slight gain as far as an intake point of view NOT because you're ramming air in, but because you are creating a cold air intake and more airflow, just like certain exhausts create horsepower by creating more airflow......

Thanks, JT, lol. I certianly did get a good laugh out of that.

Most of the "gain" seen my air intake modification is a result of better throttle response not so much actual power increases.

Maaaaannn...I read that article. So you mean the hole I cut in my hood with the hacksaw doesn't DO anything?

That article was excellent. The deeper explanation part was really good.

adidasho, yes it helps in power and gains and about throttle response....lol. What a joke. If you want better throttle response go clean your whole intake, but take it into pieces then clean the IAB valve, TB, long and short runners, secondary butterfly valve pieces, air horns, and cylinder head ports. That there will give you some and also spray some WD-40 on the spring where your accelerator cable is connected to then work it into it when spraying by working the butterfly valve back and forth. After you do that why don't you tell us how your throttle response is and how quick it can jump to 3k with a slight touch of the pedal. boink

Here`s a pic of my engine bay.The scoop just helps draw air into the inner fender, where the engine bay get`s it`s fresh air. There is a cone filter surrounded by a heat shield. After 2 years of playing around with different intake designs,i`ve finally given in and decided to go back to the original air box with a K&N filter. It`s the best way to keep hot air away from the filter.Btw,yes most of my engine is chrome, and yes, those are nitrous selinoids you see.Let me know when you`re ready to run your "fast" SHO in the 1/4 mile. :p

That's one of the best engine bays I've seen. Great job, I like it. Yes I see the solinoids and when I put mine in they'll be twice as big and there will be 4. thumbs_u I'm going for a 150-500hp shot and am not backing out. wink If something goes wrong then another motor can be dropped in. I'm going with the kind of set up Doug L. has, but with a bigger shot. thumbs_u I'll be getting my clutch soon from Josh and when I install it, it should be around time for the local tracks to re-open and I'll take it out to the 1/8 first and update my times on the signature and I won't forget again to do my traction thing. I'll be shooting for 9.1's or around there and for the 1/4, I've never ran it but I think I can possibly 14.5's for sure. I also did some extra tuning type work that should help it out a little so I'll see what I can do. I don't want to give times because last time I mentioned any I had awile accomplishing and it made me fustrated, so I'm happy with anytime better which I'll know I'll get because I had a bad clutch slipping that went out the same night at the track. So what kind of times do you bring in with the nitrious? I'm thinking you can at least get a 14.2 or better depending on the shot and traction. Let me know. wink

I don't think the SHO can handle more than a 75hp shot of N2O without other extensive modding. You sound like a crazy know-it-all 16 year old in all of these posts. Don't strap a 150 shot on and waste a perfectly good motor. There are only so many of them left.

mofosho, your ignorance kicked in. wink Look at Doug, he had a 125hp shot and it handled. I'm not having a set up like others mines is going to be like Dougs and if you say I'm dumb for going that much think again because you or anyone else that says something about this is also talking about a guy with double your power that told me. thumbs_u Are motors aren't that much of pu$$y's.

You said you want to run a 150 shot, that is more than a 125 that doug sprays. Also, doesn't doug have a set of headers on his car, and other extensive modifications. I imagine, with a 125 shot or more you would have to upgrade your fuel system with bigger injectors, high out put pump, regulator..... You can't just bolt a N2O system on, and go. unless you only plan on running it down the track once or twice.

OMG, I just want you to tell me what headers have to do with NOS? Your funny. Yes I'll know I'll need bigger injectors and also it's going to be shooting NOS w/gas. I already know what I'll need to do and if I didn't I wouldn't be attempting this. wink

Oh yeah, forgot to say it's not just an 150 shot. It's adjustable from 150-500hp blast. thumbs_u

I feel like dropping in my opinions:

Jeremy's air scoop looks great up close. I keep wondering after seeing it what sort of thing I can think up that looks just as good. I'm still without ideas.

X-15 SHO, I have to disagree with your N20 shot amounts. Such great amounts of the stuff will over time, ruin the engine's performance, I'm sure. It will reach a point where it ruins incredibly poorly, and of course, slowly. As for reliability, engines in general are not as durable as we'd like to think at times. I put the wrong spark plug into a snowblower engine, and upon check the actual piston inside, it had a great big dent in it, all from the wrong spark plug being put in a few times, and the cord being pulled. The tip hit the piston. However, it is nice to see your ambition in trying something new with N20. You should do some research on the mods needed in order for it to take a larger shot, and then go for it. Think, you'd have a very unique vehicle on the forum, and it would be able to handle what you throw at it.

That's my 2 cents! :)

Thanks Pat thumbs_u
Ok,i`m actually sick of talking nitrous, but here it goes.Doug Lewis HAD a direct port nitrous kit on his SHO,that was years ago. That being said,i`ll # these, just to makie it easier to understand.
1)Dry nitrous can be maxed to 125hp,many are running 100 already.
2)Direct port can be maxed out at 150hp,not much more than the dry kit.
3)Anything more that this is too much for a stock internaled motor to handle.Spare motors are useless because the motor won`t last the entire run of the drag track.
4)Even a 125hp shot is too much to get quicker.Nitrous comes on so voilently that a 100 shot is actually quicker in the 1/4 mile than a 125 shot.Even if you could run larger amounts,it`s completely useless.
5)I`ve witnessed this 1st hand on an SHO with drag radials. At 100,it ran quick,at 125,the tires broke loose half of the track, and it ran slower.Anything much over 100 is completely useless.
6)Direct port looks good, but in reality,on an SHO,it isn`t any better than the much cheaper dry kit,it won`t make drag runs any faster.

Btw,i got my wanted air box today complete with K&N panel :D Anyone want to buy my intake that`s on the car now,i`ll even thow in a polished MAF :p

Okay, everyone is going to experience a little something different and if no ones tried, which no one has then how can they say what's going to happen? Yes there will be problems during the process and they will be fixed as most people that where the first to experiement with nitrous on the SHO. As like I said, I wouldn't do it if someone with experience and knows what there talking about told me to do it. I don't want to mention names and get things heated up, but this guy knows what he's talking about. So until then I'll update everyone with the experience when it happens and let loose some track times if I feel the need. I'm also going to be doing some other serious things to the car by weight and traction wise. BTW does anyone know how much all the windows weigh together? Oh yeah and once in the process this car is only going to be a track car. I'm just tired of hearing things about rumors and people saying a SHO can't get in the 11's. Once I do if I can get them I will be posting ET's and video's of it.

Oh, JT. About drag radials, those aren't the way to go when racing at the track. Try some striaght slicks and I guarantee you thy won't give unless the track hasn't been maintnenced and oil and all types of fluids been spilt on the track and not tooken care of.

On the nitrous issue,it all has been tried, that`s where i got my max limits from.I know the max limits ofdry kits and direct port kit specifically from people who have run them on SHO`s.

On the slick issue, drag radials are the only choice.Slicks on a Gen I/Gen II SHO are "too" sticky. The traction snaps axles, even drag radials have snapped many axles.Josh T has even broken a strengthened "unbreakable" axle with his boosted car.A nitrous SHO would be even more likely to snap one because the power comes on much quicker and stronger.

Plain and simple, you can`t run more than 125hp shot of nitrous with out burning valves, you can`t run slicks without breaking axles at some point. Both points have been tried,my findings are from experiences with my personal friends.

I never heard Mark breaking his. shrug Where Marks and Josh's axles the same or did Mark have better ones. BTW which axles are you refering to that Josh broke, brand?

Mark breaks them regularly,he brings spares to the drags, and has changed a few in the parking lot.He and Josh had their sets of "unbreakables" custom made.

X-15SHO...this is getting old! I go away for the weekend and your still putting your own foot in your mouth. (FWIW...I respect anyone who mods/races their cars, has fun with it, whatever)...but you can't even keep your own facts straight.

You wrote "You line up a new GT w/out slicks and stock and I'll suck his head lights in. I do it everytime at the track and they don't understand and ask what kind of shot do I have."
I said they run in the 13's w/ drag radials (I've seen a stock GT run 14.05@100mph) and now you want to run 14.2 (maybe) w/ slicks and NOS. Give it up already...it's getting old.
If you can already "suck the headlights in" on a car that runs 14.0, why do you need slicks/NOS to go 14.2?? Shouldn't you be in the 13's already!?

TVSHO, I said a stock GT and a SHO with weight reduction. Read before you open your mouth and do some comprehending. What I was refering to about NOS and slicks was JT's times NOT MINE. A stock GT hitting 14.05 @ 100mph PLEASE!!! your a nut, that just seems like a false time also(100 mph trap???) he had something or slicks to get a jump on take off and that calls for the lower trap speed. Maybe if it was an 02' with exhaust and intake work. Like I said I spank them on a biases, street, highway, or track.

JT, Josh didn't snap his HD axles on stright slicks. He was using Nitto drag radials and also the reason for the snap was because it was defective and proven and tested defective by the manufactor. It was replaced for free under warranty, so they don't snap as easy as you think. Josh never ran straight slicks on his SHO YET. Now about Mark snapping axles, those are the stock axles not the HD axles from Josh. wink Just ask Mark since you said you talk to him and he'll tell you the same. Now for valve burning, piston, ect. when using NOS that's if you run to lean(not enough gas) then those things will happen. I know a 150-500hp shot will take some time in getting everything situated and maybe some burning, but in the outcome it's worth it. thumbs_u

I'm finished on this, sounds like people get to much 3rd and 4th hand information wink

I can read just fine! I went back and read every one of your replies and you don't make sense.
You said your SHO can beat a new stock GT. I've seen a new stock GT run 14.0x@100mph! You are saying you need slicks and NOS to do 14.2.
This means you currently cannot do 14.0x@100 or better which means you cannot "suck the headlights out of a new GT" - your quote.

I have a good idea...get the slicks and NOS, mod the **** out of your car, run it at the track and then come back with your times. If you get into the 13's I'll shut up. I doubt it will happen.

(x-15SHO - I'm finished too...in 21 years of driving, I've owned 2 Mustangs and have over 60 1/4 runs in my own and friend's Mustangs, many of which were in the high 12 to high 13 range. That's 1st hand information!! And in Dec '99, MT ran a stock GT at 13.9@99mph! Look it up and also go to Stangnet.com and ask if stock GT's can get into 13.9 - you'll see that if they cannot get there stock, one simple gear change will solve that. MM&FF have several 14.0 runs in stock GT's - read about it.)

Aww....point proved. I saidstock GT and different gears ARE NOT STOCK.

For the THIRD time I was refering to JT's SHO hiting 14.2's with slicks and NOS...NOT MINE....NOT MINE...NOT MINE.....did you get it in your head. I don't need NOS to get those times. I was refering to JT's full weight SHO. :duh:
