What do you think synthetic oil basestocks are sythesized from? Certainly not alcohols because that's not cost effective. For better or worse fossil hydrocarbons are going to be at the heart of most manmade organic compounds, refined or synthesized, until the fossil supplies are dried up/mined to the point that we are forced to go to the biomass for all the organic product we take for granted. Fortunately everything can be synthesized more or less from a few alcohols. But the cost effectiveness, let alone the infrastructure, is just not even close to taking the place of fossil HC's.voogru said:petrolium oil is the reason you are paying close to $3.00
a gallon these days, stop paying for petrolium products for your car
start using AMERICAN made synthetic oil.

use 5w30 and beat up your car with confidence
cause synthetic oil is many times better at $6
a quart compared to $1.50 fossil oil pumped out
from the ground. :hpoop:
$3/gallon gasoline has nothing to do with your choice of motor oil.
Me personally, I prefer synthetic. I have quite a few oil leaks that I will hopefully get around to repairing soon but in the meantime I have made a compromise by using Motorcraft semi-synthetic and I have been happy with it FWIW, Walmart is again carrying Motorcraft oil, albeit at a higher price than before they switched to calling it semisynthetic. It's just shy of $2/qt. Autozone is $2.49/qt. When my SHO stops losing oil it'll be back to $8 a quart redline baby!
To add fodder for thought, a good synthetic 10W/30 will flow better when cold than a dino 5W/30.
and changing your rod bearings and oil pumps.
