We're going to replace the IAC as a precaution this weekend, and I'll let you know how it goes!

I had the same exact issue with my 95' MTX and a very similar story. Check engine light came on ran real rough, bucking, but still able to drive. I pulled over shut it down tried to turn it over a few times until it finally started with my foot buried into the accelerator. The car started with check engine light still on. Now what happened next was the most annoying thing about the situation. My car ran like it was brand new !! ( mind you it had 183K on it at the time). I felt power in my car that I have never felt before while the check engine light was on. Anyways after I cleaned the intake and cleaned my Mass Air Flow sensor with M.A.F. cleaner (about 4 bucks) the problem never reaccured. Its like the engine just went into some sort of default mode, in which I understand is probably not good, but I had fun while it ran like a ***** ape

It turns out was actually the MAF. The MAF was replaced and the engine now runs like a champion again!
