seems I'm not the only one who thinks our stock system is a bit lame. . .
It worked at low volume but when you turn it up where the power really starts the amp turns off because it isnt a good ground.
How did you determine that the amp turns off because of a poor ground? Where are you sourcing the power for the amp? Did you try adding a stiffening capacitor? What impedance is your subwoofer? Did you have the amplifier bridged?
It seems unlikely to me that the ground would be causing the issue....

Yes you could say that, we angeled them up but it was the only spot on the door they could go. The top half of the door is some sort of foam and there is some stuff on the inside of the door that could not be moved.Tweeters are mounted a bit low for proper imaging, ain't they?![]()
No, you must run it from the battery.Very lame. Especially the low end.
If you are running an aftermarket amp, is it absolutely necessary to run the power wire from the battery, or can you tap off somewhere in the back? I thought about adding a small amp and 10" sub at some point. Nothing more than 300-500 watts.
Yes, but the stock "subs" are really just 6x9 speakers.Looks great! Did anyone consider upgrading the subs in the deck to keep there truck space?
W2E...
Nice job! What components did you go with? I'm probably going to swap out all my speakers with JL Audio ZR or C5 components and add the stealthboc with the 13.5. I had that same setup in my Lightning and loved it. I wanted to go with some 10's or 12's in a fiberglass enclosure in the space right behind the seat but I'm trying to keep the weight down. Just out of curiosity....you didn't want to use the a-pillars for the tweeters?
Im using the same system that I put in my F150 (JL 500/1, 2/JL 10W3V3 4ohm) and I had the same symptoms with it when I first put it in and after making a solid ground it worked. The power is coming from the battery through a 4 gauge power wire and a 150amp JL fuse block. The reason its that big is because I also have and will install the mid/high setup I have (JL 300/4, 2 sets/JL XR570-CW)
Meant did you ever pull the other side of the trunk apart looking for the amplifier?
