I wouldn't make a post if I wasn't sure about the part number. I have the box in my back room from the one I installed for the timing belt.

The reason I asked if you were sure was because, if you type in the part # you gave into the below website:

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214120

It comes up as "Tensioner - Timing Cha" ...which makes it sound like the timing chain tensioners.

So I wasn't saying you were wrong. I was just asking you to double-check. Like they say when working with wood: Measure twice, cut once.

As it turns out, your part # was accurate, but there are more than enough example if incorrect part #'s on this forum, so it never hurts to ask somebody to verify something.

If your still looking, check with Doug at FPS. I got mine a few months ago (for an MTX though)... he had quite a few brand new.

For the 3.2 the TIMING BELT tensioner is hydraulic and located on the left side of the engine if you are looking at it from the front. There is another tensioner on the right side but it is just a stationary pulley that doesn't move, the hydraulic tensioner provides all the pressure. How come you can't re-use the hydraulic tensioner you have?

I probably can, but the engine bay the 3.2L is going into, is to small to do any work in, so I don't want to get everything hooked up and the car driving...then have something go out and have to pull the motor over a idler pulley or a CPS.

Just to verify you, these 3.2 tensioners are NOT hydraulic, it is spring loaded, and there is only one. the round things are called idler pulleys, not tensioners.

Are you sure? Just because there are no oil lines going to it doesn't mean it isn't hydraulic. Look at how shocks work.

So, how would you explain that when they get old they leak out a black oily substance, and when they stop leaking it they don't work anymore?

...I thought it has been common understanding that they are a self-contained hydrolic- spring loaded unit.

your experience, dont know, my experience, one would belive that the actuator(the part that pushes the idler) would be oiled for movement, because they will rust and freeze up. no worky, brokey springy.

Was bored at school and did a bit more digging.

According to Doug Lewis from FPS,

The ATX cars have hydrolicly dampened, spring loaded tensioner.

So there we have it.
