well i'm have a time with this car! the timing belt was shreaded. Along with it went the crank position sensor. It mangled it up like spegetti. Well after replacing the new crank and cam seals and the new crank position sensor the timing belt was replaced and everything was slapped back together. Now it won't start. It turns over but doesn't start. Mechanic said that its not getting fire. What do you think could have caused this and how do it check or fix it?

Was the new CPS plugged in? Did the mechanic make sure to reattach the ground strap on the right front of the intake manifold right next to the firewall? The crossover tube bolts tightened down to spec and making a good clean connection?

Plus did he set the airgap properly on the CPS and line up all the marks on the timing belt?

IIRC, the CPS should be gapped at 0.30. Make sure you didn't bend the vane.

Also, an easy way to check if the CPS is working is to have a look at the tach when turning the engine over. If the tach reads "0", your CPS is either faulty, not gapped properly, or not plugged in.

after looking in the book we found a blue fuseable link that is blown so going to replace that tomorrow and see if that doesn't fix it. Thanks I'll let you know.

The tach is the best check to do as you turn that key. As mentioned before, if it doesnt come off of 0, then the sensor is not gapped or plugged in. I do hope you did the water pump while you were in there as alot of work is involved in taking that stuff off. Any idea how the belt got so messed up?

What does the car sound like when you are turning it over? Does it sounds like it's struggling to start or does it crank normally?

You can easily pull the top timing belt cover off and align the crank pulley at TDC and see if everything is lined up.

My thoughts exactly. If the car doesn't sound like it used to during cranking I'd bet that something happened during the timing belt replacement. Usually when you remove the timing belt one of the cam sprockets tend to slip and move out of position. If you put the belt back on without lining everything up, you'll probably get the exact same sound you're hearing now. Remove the upper timing belt cover to see the cam sprockets. Rotate the crank dampner until the white mark on it aligns with the 0 degree mark on the lower timing belt cover. At this point there are two marks, one on each of the teeth on each of the cam sprockets, they both should be at the 6 or 12 o'clock position. If they are at the 6 o'clock position rotate the engine another revolution, and both marks on the cam sprocket teeth should align with the mark on the rear upper timing belt cover. If not, this is your problem like I'm already guessing. Good luck!

would this cause no spark?
More than likely not. It would probably only cause spark at the wrong time. If it is way off, it is conceivbale the computer cannot interpret the signals from the CPS and the Camshaft Position Sensors. But no spark sounds like a bad ground.
