First off, is this something I can do with the engine still in the car by simply dropping the oil pan?

I'm not getting a knock or anything, and the engine's only got something like 55k since it got rebuilt (I've seen reciepts and talked to the guy who rebuilt it....it was done), but it's had a VERY hard life in those last 55k miles. I figure just for preventive maintence (and for something to do), I'll go ahead and replace em. What should i be looking for as far as wear is concerned? Anything in particular?

Thanks!

With just 55k on them I would worry about them just yet. Maybe in another 45k. But if you wish all you need to do is remove starter, y-pipe, oil pan and your in there.

Okay...nothing special, then. Would I be concerned about pistons hitting valves if I pushed the piston up into the bore to get access to the crank after unbolting the mains?

You only need to remove the rod caps nothing to do with the mains. You only need to push the pistons up a little.

K....now I just have to decide on whether or not I wanna do it or not. What's-his-name's right...I've only got about 55k on the motor. The wife's car, on the other hand, has 131 on the beast....on what I'm pretty sure is the stock ATX, as well. Perhaps I can do hers......

Why I subject myself to such torture, I'll never know. Who in god's name WANTS to do rod bearings?

Check the clearance since the motor has been rebuilt, might've had the crank turned down.
