Hello all. I'm a new owner from... Wait for it... KANSAS!

Anyway... After the Dorthy and Toto jokes are over, I am looking for the first basic mods I can do to scrape a little more HP out of this 2013 SHO with 20 inch wheels, unbelievably clean... (One little pea sized dent is all I found.)

I dont want to overstress the engine or PTU as I'm not a wealthy man. I plan to add a cold air I take and performance exhaust ASAP, any best known brands? Also, any of these performance chips I see for sale really work, and do they cause issues? I imagine if Ford COULD have increased the HP without compromising engine/turbo life, they would have, but let's see what you guys got?!

No. And yes, but also no.
That description sounds like an over simplification of the process. Or a description of something bogus.

What you want to do is research (on this board will easily be sufficient) tuning. You'll eventually purchase a tuning device, with a cable that plugs into the OB port, along with a custom tune file and change the computer programming of your vehicle.

Wouldn't hurt to look into a forscan-type connector and look into some of the things you can change yourself (again, this board is a wealth of knowledge on these things).

Don't buy a chip or device that you have to permanently leave connected to your OB. Those are a bad thing. Personally, I even avoid any readers or gauges that permanently plug in there. I'm not superstitious but I am a little stitious.

Okay... Ful disclosure, the last time I personally worked on my car was a 1983 Monte Carlo SS. I've kinda avoided the whole computer-assisted driving thing. ****, I still drive a manual transmission!! I bought a V-6 Camaro brand new with a 5 speed manual in 2002 and have driven it ever since. This was a bit of a overkill on what I set out to buy, which was an AWD car that will go in the snow coming up. Lol. In the past, I would simply borrow thr wife's mini-van and left the Camaro in the garage, but she owned that with her father and she passed away in May.

I had heard of the SHO, of course, but when I drove this beauty and pressed that accelerator pedal... I couldn't help but smile. Lol. As well kept as it was... I HAD to pull the trigger. (Just agree I had to... PLEASE... lol)

Anyway, I know NOTHING about "tuning" and all that, so I'm going to have to learn or get more money to pay someone to figure it out for me. Lol

Best bang for the buck is 3 bar MAP and a tune. You need a set it and forget it tune with a handheld tuner. Preferable keep a stock tune you can load and keep when/if you return to stock. Not a chip, a tune device that can flash the stock computer and be removed. If I were you I would take a fresh all fluids approach (especially the PTU) and get go fast parts in the spring/summer.

To be fair, you could be completely happy just jumping in it stock and going. It will do everything you want it to, until you want to go to the track or beat every mustang on the road -which is entirely feasible.

Indeed! Already had it in yesterday to my mechanic. Full synthetic oil change price made me gag, but he said it's best in these cars. Also had him service the PTU. He seemed puzzled why I wanted to do that. (From reading around this forum, thank you all!) He said afterward that it definitely needed to be changed, but he had seen much worse. Only problem he could find was a CV axle that was starting to leak grease, so had him replace that. I'm at the tire shop now and was told its out of alignment, so they can't fix it because the camber and caster is off. Can't see paying $100 to have them just fix the toe... Grrr At least it was free here. The oil, PTU and axle was $800

Might get performance exhaust put ini it Tuesday... Also ordering a cold air intake. Worth it?

You didn’t read SM105K’s SHO bible! ;)

Only have coolant flush, about six five out five ins of trans fluid, RDU gear oil, and brake fluid to go.

Don’t waste your money on the CAI. Slap a K&N panel filter in and call it good. If by performance exhaust you’re referring to a cat back system then yes, also a waste in my opinion. The downpipes are where the most restriction lies. You would be better off with aftermarket down pipes bolted to stock exhaust than vice versa.

Welcome.
CIA is a waste for the most part as well as the exhaust. EPP intake is about the only one.
A 93 tune from GH or AJP is your best bang for the buck.

You can lead a horse to water, but they don't have to drink.
